The Commission discussed their appreciation of City Staff and City Council for their cooperation <br />in the process of improving the park system. <br /> <br />Park/Utilities Supervisor Boos discussed the Master Trail Plan and it's importance. <br /> <br />Case #2: Review of Park Development and Maintenance, Year-To-Date <br /> <br />Mr. Boos stated that the purpose of this case is to update the Commission on park activity so far <br />this year. <br /> <br />Commissioner Johns stated that she has noticed a tall grass and weed problem at Rivers Bend <br />Park. Maintenance Worker John Nelson stated that at the beginning of the season all the rain that <br />was received caused a lot of problems, but they are trying to clean it up. Park/Utilities <br />Supervisor explained that broadleaf control has been ordered for the clover, but also due to rain <br />have been unable to treat it. <br /> <br />Maintenance Worker Nelson reviewed the following maintenance items: <br /> <br />Ford Brook - equipment painted, and removed old barbecue equipment <br />Riverwood Hills - stated that there should be an ice rink this winter <br />Brook View Park - new duck houses installed <br />Bear Park - stated that there has been no RYAA action but some citizens have continue to use the <br />ballfield <br />Rivers Bend - willows sprayed, working on the mowing issue, and installed a large bat house <br />Fox Park - completely redid the bridge, and installed a practice board in the tennis court <br />Flintwood Terrace - trimmed trees <br />Alpine Park - trees planted, installed picnic enclosures, tree rings, swing that overlooks fishing <br />pond <br />Emerald Pond - ordered garbage can replacement, irrigation work, weeding <br />Peltzer Park - all new playground equipment installed fall 1998 <br />Cottonwood Park - willows sprayed <br />Foster Cemetery - mowed, rock installed around flag pole <br />Riverdale Park - planted 18 fruit trees, basketball backboard will be installed in the tennis court <br />Central Park - installed new tennis courts, will be fixing and painting hockey boards <br />Trap Rock Park - explained that citizens were concerned about cars cutting through the park so <br />posts and cable guards were installed <br />Lake Itasca Trail - installed a bench overlooking Lake Itasca, trimmed and mowed all trails, <br />cleaned up old storm damage <br /> <br />COMMISSION/STAFF INPUT <br /> <br />There was none. <br /> <br />Director of Public Works/Fire Chief Kapler stated that while Park/Utilities Supervisor Boos was <br />on vacation he was involved with the repair of a lawn mower and was impressed with the Staff <br /> <br />Park and Recreation Commission/July 8, 1999 <br /> Page 3 of 4 <br /> <br /> <br />
