Mr. Jankowski asked the residents to report traffic problems to the police in order for them to
focus their enforcement, including time of day, type of car, etc.

Mr. Hamborg stated the trend is to get the neighborhoods to do some type of policing, but they
need to get some type of control first. He agreed they could start making reports to the police
department.

Committee Member Haas Steffen suggested this case could still be forwarded to Council with a
negative recommendation but would require the other three votes.

Mr. Couch mentioned there are single-entry neighborhoods going into Atlanta and suggested the
City might want to take a look at that. Committee Member Haas Steffen replied that the city of
Atlanta has quite a bit more police and fire stations to service their neighborhoods.

Delmont Fredricks, Jr., 7550 158th Avenue NW - inquired if it was unreasonable to ask what the
City would entertain to alleviate the traffic problem, and Committee Member Haas Steffen
replied the City will be doing traffic counts in order to determine what the problems are.

Case #6: Discuss 1999 Improvement Project to Provide Sewer and Water to the
Parabody and Waltek Expansions

City Engineer Jankowski outlined a potential project to extend sanitary sewer and watermain in
conjunction with the expansions of Parabody and Waltek. The Parabody project does not require
sanitary sewer since it will be possible to connect the building expansion to the existing sanitary
sewer. The Waltek project would require that both sewer and water be extended 1,100 and 1,200
feet, respectively, to bring municipal services to the site. This extension would also bring service
to Champlin Towing, Koenig Insulation, and a vacant parcel owned by Waste Management. If
watermain were extended to serve Waltek, staff would recommend that it be extended an
additional 1,200 feet to complete the 12-inch loop.

Costs and financing options were discussed.

Consensus was to direct staff to inquire among affected property owners to determine interest in
such a project.

Case #7: Sunwood Drive - ACCAP Housing Proposal

City Engineer Jankowski advised that plans for the segment of Sunwood Drive from Sunny
Ponds to T.H. #47 will be available in April. City staff suggests hosting an open house meeting
to address neighborhood concerns regarding probable increase in traffic, and possibly include at
the same meeting a presentation by ACCAP regarding their proposed housing development in
this project vicinity.

Consensus was to direct staff to plan an informational open house meeting regarding Sunwood
Drive and to coordinate such meeting with ACCAP's schedule.

Public Works Committee/March 16, 1999
