City Engineer Jankowski explained that the slope could be stabilized by planting some kind of <br />vegetation growth. He also stated that the City needs to require a minimum backyard for any <br />new development. <br /> <br />Director of Public Works/Fire Chief Kapler stated that some safeguards to prevent situations like <br />this would be a good idea. <br /> <br />Councilmember Zimmerman requested that the Planning Commission review the issue of a <br />minimum backyard requirement. <br /> <br />Motion by Councilmember Zimmerman, seconded by Councilmember Connolly, to recommend <br />to City Council that City Attorney Goodrich, Director of Public Works/Fire Chief Kapler, and <br />City Engineer Jankowski set up a meeting with the resident of 15241 Barium Street to determine <br />a solution to the erosion problem before the house falls into the City drainage easement. <br /> <br />Motion carried. Voting Yes: Councilmember Zimmerman, and Councilmember Connolly. <br />Voting No: None. <br /> <br />2) Apple Ridge Update <br /> <br />Councilmember Connolly questioned the status of the Orrin Thompson Home grading problem <br /> <br />City Engineer Jankowski explained that the City gave Orrin Thompson Homes a deadline of <br />September 15th to submit a schedule of correcting the problem. If they did not agree with the <br />recommendation by the City then they are required to submit a plan to the City by September 8, <br />1999. <br /> <br />Councilmember Connolly stated that the home should be turned into a walk out and change the <br />grading to what was originally approved by the City. <br /> <br />City Engineer Jankowski explained that a letter was sent out to the neighbors to wait until <br />September 15"' to landscape there backyards and then proceed if they are not notified otherwise <br />because Orrin Thomson Homes would have to incur the costs of replacing any damage they do to <br />correct their problem. <br /> <br />Councilmember Zimmerman questioned if they can stop Orrin Thompson Homes for continuing <br />construction if the problem is not corrected. <br /> <br />Motion by Councilmember Zimmerman, seconded by Councilmember Connolly, to recommend <br />that City staff confront Orrin Thomson Homes on whether they intend to comply with the City <br />letter to correct the drainage of the property. <br /> <br />Motion carried.
