City Engineer Jankowski replied yes, but noted that MN/Dot made a contribution of $500,000 to <br />be used for the project. <br /> <br />Councihnember Connolly questioned how much roadway is being reconstructed. <br /> <br />City Engineer Jankowski replied approximately 1.5 miles. <br /> <br />Councilmember Zimmerman inquired if the State or Federal Government will pick up any of the <br />costs for the Sunwood Drive extension. <br /> <br />City Engineer Jankowski replied that the City will be using MSA funds for the Sunwood Drive <br />extension. <br /> <br />Councilmember Zimmerman questioned if the project will include a sidewalk along Sunwood <br />Drive. <br /> <br />City Engineer Jankowski explained that the plan currently includes a five-foot sidewalk along the <br />south side of Sunwood Drive. <br /> <br />Councilmember Zimmerman inquired if the sidewalk will be constructed with MSA funds. <br /> <br />City Engineer Jankowski replied yes. <br /> <br />Director of Public Works Kapler noted that sidewalks should be at least six feet wide to allow for <br />the City to maintain them. <br /> <br />Councihnember Connolly stated that she would like to consider installing a handicap accessible <br />trail behind Solstice Park, by Lord of Life Church, that would allow senior citizens to walk. <br /> <br />City Engineer Jankowski stated that he feels the speed bumps on Dysprosium Street should be <br />removed and a sidewalk on both sides of the road should be installed. <br /> <br />Councilmember Zimmerman replied that there are several children in the area and he thinks the <br />speed bumps are still needed. <br /> <br />City Engineer Jankowski replied that if a sidewalk was installed for kids it would help keep them <br />out of the street. <br /> <br />Councilmember Connolly stated that she is concerned over the sidewalk being installed along the <br />existing three blocks of Sunwood Drive, and if the decision is made that the sidewalk is needed <br />then she would prefer that the sidewalk be placed up to the curb. <br /> <br />Councilmember Zimmerman requested that Councilmember Connolly draw up her proposed trail <br />and submit the idea to the Park Commission for their comment. <br /> <br />Public Works Committee/October 19, 1999 <br /> Page 2 of 9 <br /> <br /> <br />
