Some of the early <br />projects did not focus on wage. <br /> <br />City Attorney Goodrich noted that a property owner can file a one-year extension if the goals are <br />not met within the two years. <br /> <br />Counci hnember Anderson questioned what type of business In-Tech is. <br /> <br />Mark Nielsen explained that In-Tech's primary objective is to service the hearing aid industry. <br />Councilmember Anderson questioned if they work directly with physicians. <br /> <br />Mark Nielsen replied that they work with hearing aid manufacturers. They supply the parts, <br />which allow mannfacturers to build hearing-aids. <br /> <br />Councilmember Anderson stated that there seems to be a direct connection between $7.50 hourly <br />wage and a high turnover. She questioned if they thought they could keep more employees at a <br />higher salary. <br /> <br />Mark Nielsen replied that people don't usually leave because of the salary. He explained that the <br />manufacturing industry can become very repetitive. <br /> <br />Councilmember Anderson questioned why they have such a large salary range. <br /> <br />Roger Nielsen explained that the employee making $18.00 to $25.00 per hour is a tradesman, <br />engineer, or sale staff that have been educated and trained to do the job. The other positions are <br />entry level and can be trained in-house for the position. The $7.50 per hour wage would be very <br />competitive with neighboring molding companies. <br /> <br />Mayor Gamec commented that he is surprised that with a full time benefit program they do not <br />keep more people on staff. He questioned if the benefits seem important to their employees. <br /> <br />Roger Nielsen explained that many of their employees come to work there because of the health <br />care benefits. There average worker ranges in age from 25 to 30 years. <br /> <br />Motion by Councihnember Hendriksen, seconded by Councilmember Connolly, to close the <br />public hearing. <br /> <br />The public hearing closed at 8:02 p.m. <br /> <br />Motion can'ied.
