Case #11: Report from Public Works Committee <br /> <br />1) Receive Hiring Recommendation for Public Works Maintenance Worker <br /> <br />Motion by Councilmember Anderson, seconded by Councilmember Hendriksen, to authorize <br />Staff to offer a conditional hire to Lonny Lofgren as the Public Works Maintenance Worker, <br />contingent upon successful completion of background investigations of driving record and <br />criminal history, reference checks, and a physical examination, at an annual salary of $24,071. <br /> <br />Motion carried. Voting Yes: Mayor Gamec, Councilmembers Anderson, Hendriksen, Connolly, <br />and Zimmerman. Voting No: None. <br /> <br />2) Appointment of Interim Community Development Director <br /> <br />Motion by Councilmember Hendriksen, seconded by Councilmember Zimmerman, to appoint <br />Sylvia Frolik as Interim Community Development Director effective October 27, 1999. <br /> <br />Motion carried. Voting Yes: Councilmembers Hendriksen, Zimmerman, Anderson, and <br />Connolly. Voting No: None. Abstain: Mayor Gamec. <br /> <br />Motion by Councilmember Hendriksen, seconded by Councilmember Zimmerman, to increase <br />the salary of Sylvia Frolik by 75% of the difference between her current salary and the low point <br />of the Community Development Director pay range. <br /> <br />Further discussion: Councilmember Anderson stated that the City ran into pay equity problems <br />with the hiring of the previous Community Development Director and the salary had to be <br />negotiated. She inquired if the same problem will occur. City Administrator Norman replied at <br />this point he is not sure. Mayor Gamec inquired as to when the salary increase would become <br />effective. Councilmember Hendriksen replied that it is unfortunate that she is currently ill, but <br />she has been an employee since 1981, and has currently been doing the work of the Community <br />Development Director so he does not think she should be penalized. Councilmember Connolly <br />stated that Ms. Frolik is still fulfilling work while out. Councilmember Hendriksen and <br />Councihnember Zimmerman amended their motion to say the salary increase is effective October <br />27, 1999. <br /> <br />Motion carried. Voting Yes: Councilmembers Hendriksen, Zimmerman, Anderson, and <br />Connolly. Voting No: None.
