Council Member Strommen asked what the cost of renting a large tent would be.
Board Member Bentz asked if the intent was to try to hold it at city hall instead of the
school.
Environmental Specialist Bacon stated that the school indicated they do not have
assignments for staff, and the Expo is dependent on volunteers. He stated the clean up is
handled by janitors and has not been assigned to anyone. Environmental Specialist
Bacon stated that he has suggested in the past that the community school add a half-time
budgeted expo and environmental education person.
Acting Chairperson Max suggested making the Expo either a one -day event or a series of
events.
Environmental Specialist Bacon stated that the education part was previously done on
week nights.
Acting Chairperson Max stated that many things could be done with three or four
seminars wrapped around the Expo.
Environmental Specialist Bacon suggested that some future events could be well
advertised at the Expo and done later in the spring.
Acting Chairperson Max concurred with the suggestion.
Environmental Specialist Bacon suggested finding a keynote speaker.
Board Member Olds suggested Mr. Ron Schera since he is from the local area.
Council Member Strommen stated that Mr. Ron Schera had done a Boy Scout event
recently.
Board Member Sibilski stated he had been named as an advisor for the LCCMR.
Board Member Olds suggested inviting Will Steeger to be a speaker.
Environmental Specialist Bacon suggested inviting Mark Seeley. He stated that he was a
keynote speaker at the Shade Tree course. Environmental Specialist Bacon suggested
sending invitations to more than one speaker.
Acting Chairperson Max stated that a forum should be determined before choosing
speakers.
Board Member Bentz stated that he took his children to the tree sale, but didn't think they
would want to stay for a speaker.
Environmental Policy Board/ November 6, 2006
Page4of12
