Environmental Specialist Bacon stated that Coordinator Chris Anderson should
determine what kind of a budget is available.
Environmental Specialist Bacon stated that the Comprehensive Plan update might be one
area of interest to some residents.
Acting Chairperson Max stated that he would rather ask the City Council for a specific
budget amount, knowing what kind of funds were needed, rather than asking for a budget
and then deciding how much can be afforded for the Expo.
Acting Chairperson Max asked for suggestions about speaking subjects. He mentioned
the subject of wells and septic systems as an area of interest.
Environmental Specialist Bacon stated it would be helpful to have directed discussion
about topics of interest that the EPB has been involved in.
Council Member Strommen suggested the subject of rain gardens.
Environmental Specialist Bacon stated he would like something that summarizes trees,
buffers, and tree inventory in Ramsey.
Environmental Specialist Bacon suggested having one topic address health and risk. He
stated these are hard topics to get people to understand. He stated that the EPB is
attempting to increase ecosystem health because that is the payback for the EPB
members' time.
Board Member Bentz suggested finding a speaker that covers the topic of clean water.
Acting Chairperson Max concurred that the city has rivers on two boundaries, which
might make the subject of clean water a very well received topic.
Board Member Bentz stated that combining the subject of clean water with rivers also
leads to the subject of wells and septic systems.
Acting Chairperson Max stated there is no shortage of ideas to fill up three to four hours
of speaking sessions. He suggested offering breaks between speakers, with more
discussion about filling in the small details at another EPB meeting.
Environmental Specialist Bacon suggested the presentation could have more than one
speaker about a subject, and then the speakers could meet together for follow up at a later
time.
Acting Chairperson Max suggested round -table discussion after informational sessions to
address questions that people may have.
Environmental Policy Board/ November 6, 2006
Page 5 of 12
