Council Member Strommen noted that Todd Cook is also very familiar with the issues and that
he would be available to help with the discussion. She stated that she is confident that all items
are covered in the proposed amendment adding that they should be sure that the Council is
comfortable with the proposed changes.
Board Member Olds asked if the concerned residents have copies of the proposed ordinance and
have read it.
Mr. Anderson confirmed that Mr. Hunt does have a copy of the proposed ordinance and that Mr.
Hunt did state that there were improvements made since the Planning Commission hearing.
Case #2 Buffer Monumentation Signs
Mr. Anderson stated that this is to update the Board on the signage and provided the Board with
an example of the proposed monumentation signs. He explained that the example Staff is
considering has color choices of green, white, yellow and black. He stated that Staff is
recommending an 8-inch by 8-inch sign that would be posted approximately every 200 feet.
Board Member Olds asked if there are any conflicts with the signage color. Mr. Anderson stated
that there are no conflicts noting that in one of the developments the developer is doing a
voluntary buffer and has provided an estimated dollar amount for the cost of the signs.
Acting Chairperson McDilda asked if the Board should be making a color decision at this
meeting. Mr. Anderson stated that the matter is tabled for the time being and suggested that the
Board take some time to give it thought and provide their input.
Board Member Max asked how the signs would be mounted.
Council Member Strommen stated that her understanding is that the signs would be mounted on
a 4-inch by 4-inch post. Mr. Anderson confirmed adding that the posts would need to include an
anchoring system so that it couldn't be pulled out.
Council Member Strommen stated that the developers would be responsible for purchasing the
signs and suggested doing the same with the posts.
Mr. Bacon suggested considering the signs as having an educational function and include a small
piece of information that shows the animals that are indigenous to the area.
Mr. Anderson noted that they are not sure as to how specific they could get on the signs adding
that the sign could include a picture of a bird or animal and reviewed.
Acting Chairperson McDilda asked when the Board should have their recommendations ready.
Mr. Anderson suggested that the Board review and provide their input at the first meeting in
September.
Acting Chairperson McDilda asked Mr. Anderson to include this item as an agenda item when
everything is ready for them to discuss. He suggested that the Board Members review and put
together their individual recommendations and be prepared to discuss at the next Board meeting.
Environmental Policy Board / August 1, 2005
Page 3 of 5
