Planning Commissioner Reeves suggested it would cut down on a lot of time if the Subcommittee
can see the whole document so they can review all of it and then come with questions. He noted
that the topic of performance standards has been discussed since the first meeting.
Councilmember Kurak stated they could read it and if they have questions, they could be asked
off the record without taking 15 minutes at the meeting to get an understanding. Then if you do
not agree with the language, it can be raised at the meeting.
Councilmember Hendriksen stated he is sure that developers are antsy to get this done since they
have money on the line. But the fact that laypeople want it done sooner, just because they think it
should be done, he does not think that is something the Subcommittee needs to respond to.
Mayor Gamec stated the point is that the Subcommittee cannot accomplish much in three hours
and that's the general comment he is hearing. He pointed out that developers know what they
will go through when they come to the City Council, but it is the landowners that are being held
up in the commercial area that is to be developed. He stated that if there is a way to improve the
process, it should be considered.
Councilmember Kurak asked if sections should be sent to the Planning Commission for comment.
Mayor Gamec stated he supports the suggestion made by Planning Commissioner Reeve to get
the entire document and go through it individually.
Councilmember Zimmerman stated this is an important process.
Mr. Gordon stated they will bring the full code, once complete, to the Subcommittee or the
Planning Commission.
Mayor Game stated the Subcommittee was formed by the City Council and suggested that
document be provided to the Subcommittee.
Mayor Gamec and Councilmember Kurak left the meeting at 8:11 p.m.
Councilmember Hendriksen stated there is no point in continuing the meeting if everyone is not
present.
Councilmembers Hendriksen and Zimmerman left the meeting at 8:12 p.m.
Mr. Gordon asked if the review should stop at the business district tonight and start again at the
employment section when the full document is presented.
Planning Commissioner Reeve stated that would be a good idea and thanked Mr. Gordon and
Associate Planner Wald for their work.
Chapter 9 Committee /June 27, 2002
