11.Working Hours & Efficiency
Working hours are generally 8 AM to 4:30 PM Monday through Friday. Working
outside these times is currently permitted due to past practice, but this is likely to
change and will be announced accordingly. Overtime hours need to be carefully
considered and can be curbed with greater efficiency and outside resources.
Personal time outside of structured work hours is vital to an individual's health and
well being.
The following "goals" apply to time spent on tasks.
• Scheduling and other general incoming calls. We should spend no more than
3-5 minutes per call. If we cannot successfully assist our customer within this
amount of time, a follow up call or phone transfer may be necessary.
• Non -work related conversations in the office shall be kept to a minimum and/
or limited to breaks or outside of normal business hours. It is important to
realize the cumulative impact of excessive time spent on non -work -related
conversations while maintaining an enjoyable and comfortable relationship
with coworkers.
• Email communications should be as complete and brief as possible. Try not to
elaborate too much as attention spans and schedules will likely necessitate
clear and concise communication.
• Recording inspection results should take no more than 2-3 minutes. If you
find yourself spending more time on correction verbiage, reach out to fellow
inspectors for advice. When writing a correction, specific direction needs to be
given without saying more than necessary to get your point across. Don't
apologize for code requirements but it is important to recognize the impact in
time and money invested into most construction projects. Understand and
communicate the "why" behind the "what" of code requirements. We are
educators relying on voluntary compliance from contractors and homeowners.
Operations Manual 2024 Page 6 of 10
