FIELD OPERATIONS & INSPECTIONS
12.Field Inspection Dress & Equipment
Field inspectors must always be properly dressed for inspections in hot, cold, and
inclement weather. Physical attire includes displaying city issued identification,
professional looking clothing and proper footgear. T-shirts and/ or logo type shirts
are generally avoided. NOTE: Sneakers are not appropriate footgear for inspections.
A hard -sole shoe or boot is required. Ensure attire is aligned with current city
employee handbook.
13. Field Inspectors / Site Inspection Conduct
Introduce yourself. If you are met by a homeowner, "Hello, I am Bob""with Ramsey
Inspections." After the introduction, follow the steps listed below.
• Confirm - The type of inspection scheduled and ask if they have any questions
about the permit and inspection process to this point
a) While in a home, be respectful, polite, and courteous. When entering the
home, wear boot covers even if the owner says; "do not worry about it." This
is our standard policy unless the home is under construction.
b) Complete the inspection being mindful of optics, complete your tasks with
consideration of not being too fast or too slow. We want to show value in the
service in all that we do and the pace of an inspection can lead to unintended
impressions.
• Ask- At the end of the inspection, ask "Is there anything else I can help you
with?" and thank the resident for their time.
• Document - Update the Inspection Record before leaving the jobsite.
14.Inspection Punctuality
When conducting field inspections, we operate on a "20-minute window" arriving on
site within 10 minutes before or after the scheduled inspection time.
If we cannot meet this time frame, we are to inform the permit applicant or
designated contact as soon as possible. Contact information for the person
responsible for the inspection should be included on the calendar entry for ease of
reference.
Operations Manual 2024 Page 7 of 10
