CASE # \

NAME PARK SPACES WITHIN TOWN CENTER
By: Mark Riverblood, Parks Supervisor

Background:

At the June 8th, 2006 joint Park and Recreation Commission and City Council meeting, names
for the several park spaces within the Town Center was discussed. The consensus of those in
attendance was that formalized names should be in place as these areas are being developed.

Observations:

A motion was made by the Park and Recreation Commission to connect all the park spaces
within the Town Center as 'Commons'. The following recommended park names correspond
with the map on the reverse of this case:

. 'Meandering Commons' - (the undulating one-mile centralized park space in the center).
. 'Village Square Commons' - (the approximate 2-acre park space across from the
Municipal Center and Parking Ramp.
. 'Downtown Commons' - (the small park at the very heart or hub of the Town Center).
. 'North Commons' - (the park at the north center area of the project).
. 'Rhinestone Commons' - (the park at Rhinestone Street and East Ramsey Parkway,
adjacent to the PACT Charter School).

If Council approves the Park and Recreation Commission's recommendation, staff will place the
appropriate Resolution on a subsequent City Council Consent Agenda.

Recommendation:

Staff recommends approving the Park and Recreation Commissions motion to adopt the above
names.

Council Action:

Motion to direct staff to prepare a Resolution officially naming the park spaces within the Town
Center.

CC: 7/11/06

-91-
