The City Council finds and declares <br />that tl,e use of viable alternative energy sources is increasing in the <br />City of Coon Rapids. It is the intent of the City to encourage such <br />viable sources including wood. The Council also realizes that young <br />childr en can become attr acted to woodpiles and that climbing of such <br />piles can result in injury to the children. To protect the public <br />health and safety, the City Council enacts the following regulations. <br /> <br />8-902 Scope. This Chapter applies to the storage or keeping of <br />wood on residential properties within the City where the wood is. not <br />stored within an enclosure capable of protecting the wood from the <br />elements. It shaH apply to any wood or wood product usuaHy used or <br />intended to be used as firewood in the residence or any accessory <br />str uctur e. <br /> <br />8-903 Conditions for StoraRe. Wood stored or kept in the City <br />which is not contained within a coverage enclosure impervious to the <br />element shaH be stored or kept in neat and secure stacks no more than <br />five (5) feet in height as measured from the ground surface; provided, <br />however, that no wood shaH be stacked within the required area of <br />setback from a public str eet right-of-way. <br /> <br />8-904 ExistinR Woodpiles. Any woodpile in existence as of <br />August I, 1981, which does not comply with the provIsIOns of this <br />Chapter must be removed or placed in compliance with the terms of this <br />Chapter within one (1) year after written notice to comply is given by <br />the Zoning Administrator. Such notice shaH be in writing and shall <br />be served upon the property owner either in person or by certified <br />mail. <br /> <br />8-905 Penalty.
