Kellogg Bl\ St. Paul, MN 5510] (612)296-8900 Firewood Storage Model Ordinance 1) State~ent of policy. The City Council finds that the use of renewable resources including wood is increasing. The Council recognizes that to protect public health and safety, wood piles must be erected, located, and maintained in a safe and orderly fashion. 2) Scope. This ordinance applies to the storage of wood on residential properties wi thin the Ci ty of (Fill in name of community) except for the exemptions noted below. The ordinance shall apply to any wood or wood product usually used or intended to be used as firewood in L~e residence or any accessory structure. No~e: This section specifies firewood and would not apply to lumber or other wood construction materials that may be stored on residential property. The language could be broadened to include these other wood products if desired. If this is done, thougb, an exe~ption provision concerning the temporary storage of wood construction materials at construction could be added. See note under section 4 on exa~ptions. 3) Conditions of Storage. Firewood shall be stored in the following fashion: a) in neat and secure stacks. b) the height of a wood pile over three feet high shall be no more twice its width.
