Golden Valley J>iatrict 5

File. C. S. 0206

R. S. Brown
Project Manager

Upgrade T8 169/Ferry Street
From TH 252 to TH 10

The technical comadttee of the North Metro Traffic Task Force has requested
information regarding the now defunct S.P. 0206-30 (widen and resurface Ferry
StITH 169 trom Benton Av to '1'H 10) and any ideas to improve traffic flow along
TH 169 trom TH 252 to the Mississippi River. The emphasis is to Ilerve existing
(1986) traffic volumes. These are to be evaluated as possible short-term
Bolutions to the growing travel demand identified by the North Metro Travel
Task Force study.

The thrust of S.P. 0206-30 was to:

a) Provide 2 through traf'f'ic lanes along Ferry St (Legislative Route
Number 110) in each direction.

b) Provide turn lanes and channelization consistent with practices for
intersections with large volumes.

c) Provide proper roadway drainage throughout the project limits.

d) Accommodate City wishes with regard to utility, drainage and sidewalk
improvements. within and about the project-limits.

e) Minimal right-of-way taking to the extent possible.

The construction cost was estimated at $500,000.

Right-of-way requirements included one residential/commercial relocation and
'Variable width (20' max.) strips between Benton Av and Webster Av (total
additional right-of-way approximately 0.5 acres).

From TH 252 to the Mississippi River was looked at briefly by G. M. Felt,
Project Manager, as part of the now unscheduled Mississippi River bridge
replacement. Since that time, Bennepin Co has forwarded plans to upgrade the
Co Rd 12 approach to '1'H 169. This work should include a double left turn
lane. As a companion to this project, it would be appropriate to add a north
bound double left turn lane and perform the necessary signal revisions. These
actions would greatly enhance any improvements that can be accomplished in C.
S. 0206.

Estimated Mn/DOT participation - $90,000, BES?

No additional right-of-way. is anticipated for MnIDOT actions.
requirements will be substantial.

Hennepin Co

.

~
~
