.

.-

.

CC CASE #

CONTRACT FOR FIRE SERVICES FOR BURNS TOWNSHIP
By: Dean Kapler, Fire Chief

Background:-

Ramsey's Fire Department has been under contract to provide fire services to the eastern
half of Burn's Township for almost 3 years. Burns Township decided earlier this year to
have Ramsey Fire provide services to the entire township effective August 1 st of this
year.

Recently Ramsey and Bums have agreed to pursue a joint venture to provide fire services
to both communities. This process, while underway, will take some time to implement.
Staff is predicting a time frame of approximately 18 months to have a working fire
station with trained staff in Burns Township.

The attached contract will direct response and costs while the joint venture is being
created. Suggestions by LMCIT (League ofMN Cities Insurance Trust) and the City
Attorney have.been implemented in the contract.

Burns Township would prefer the contract run on an annual basis. This contract would
then be effective until January 1,2007 at which point either community could make
revisions. The payments quoted will be prorated for the year 2006 and be charged in full
for each proceeding year until the joint venture is in effect.

Staff Recommendation:

Mayor Gamec and City Administrator sign the attached contract which will be effective
August 1,2006.

Council Action:

Motion to accept/reject Fire Chief's recommendation.

.
