The City recently took delivery of a sign making <br />machine, and these signs could be produced and distributed in conjunction with placement of <br />other signs in the area. <br /> <br />Councilmember Cook suggested the County provide the signs to the larger parks and that they be <br />posted 1.5 miles out from the larger parks. <br /> <br />The Committee discussed the possible distance for the placements of the signs. <br /> <br />ParkslUtilities Supervisor Riverblood advised the signs are needed for the high destination parks, <br />including Rivers Bend, Elmcrest, Emerald Pond, Alpine, Central and the Lake Itasca Trailheads. <br />12" x 18" signs could be placed on the intersection sign posts and be done very inexpensively. <br />He noted the City website does include the park addresses and the Youth Association has good <br />maps on their website, but people are still confused when trying to locate some of the parks. <br /> <br />Civil Engineer II Linton stated staff has received comments regarding the need for smaller signs <br />on Armstrong Boulevard around 163rd Avenue to inform people that Central Park is coming up, <br />because many people drive right past this park. <br /> <br />Consensus of the Committee was to direct staff to create a master plan map depicting possible <br />locations for park location signs and to bring the information back to a future Committee <br />meeting. <br /> <br />Case #4: <br /> <br />Discussion of the Removal of Chevrons at 169th Avenue and Neon Street <br /> <br />Motion by Councilmember Cook, seconded by Councilmember Olson, to recommend to the City <br />Council that staff be directed to remove the chevrons located at 169th Avenue and Neon Street, <br />keeping two official size arrows posted in both directions. <br /> <br />Chairperson Elvig commented the curb seemed to have the biggest effect, and should be <br />considered for this type of problem in the future. <br /> <br />Motion carried. Voting Yes: Chairperson Elvig, Councilmembers Cook and Olson. Voting No: <br />None. <br /> <br />COMMITTEE INPUT <br /> <br />Discuss Intersection at Armstrong Blvd. and Alpine Drive <br /> <br />Public Works Director Olson reviewed that the intersection of Sunfish Lake Boulevard and <br />Alpine Drive meet the warrants for a signal. There have been a lot of accidents at this <br />intersection; it has recently become a 4-way stop. Before the 4-way stops were placed, there was <br />discussion about what the City could do to improve the intersection. The County has informed <br />staff with the change to the 4-way stop they are concerned the intersections along Alpine Drive <br />will have a different look and feel, and that the intersections should have the same type of traffic <br />measures.
