Councilmember Schlueter stated that she has recently seen and heard the needs and wants of elected officials, appointed officials and salaried employees. 'Jhis City needs direction for growth, good working relationships, enforcement of ordinances and goal setting. Along with those needs are wants for good direction, improving working relationships, taking a stand on ordinance enforcement, and setting goals for growth. Councilnenber Schlueter stated that if she can serve IOsitively to set the direction for 1986, her goals will have been accomplished. Councilmember Reimann stated the fOllowing seven items as his goals: 1) Help further educate the Id>lic regarding the cost of govemnent and schools and vOtingl 2) Keep working for the citizens of Ramsey for an affordable place to work, live and play, 3) Bring in and keep carmercial business in the City to fom a good tax base and create jobs for residents and teenagersl 4) Finalize the Tri-City Fire Depubnent contract if the City can afford to do 801 5) Continue to develop affordable City ptrks for use ~ the residentsl 6) Live within the City's budget even if it means cutting back on servicesl 7) Pursue the RlID River bridge crossing, the Mississippi River bridge crossing and the !hurston Avenue corridor. Counci1member Sorteberg stated the plblic needs to be educated regarding taxes and how they are levied. Several new projects have been initiated in Ramsey and those projects will have to be carried forth and watched closely. I tens needing Council attention are the R\In River and MississiWi River bridge crossings, the airlX)rt study and recodification of zoning ordinances. Councilmember Sorteberg stated that he feels the Ci ty is on the right track wi th Council and ci tizens working together. Counci1member Cox stated that 1986 should be a year of IOsitive actions for the ci tizens. It is enc\IDbent for Council and all other agencies to actively pursue the RlID River Bridge CrOSSing. Counci1member Cox stated that he is sURX>rtive of anending the Clarter with regards to precinct meetings, which seem to be a waste of time that oould be used for other endeavors. !he enti re park system needs attention. Council should work witil Waste Management of Minnesota, Inc. and awropriate agencies for the proper closing of the landfill si te to insure the best and safest end use of the si tee Council should work for the voters and not special campaign supporters. Council should support ocmnercial growth and not run businesses out of town. Cooperation is a strong word in this OOl1IDunity and councilmembers should not work with Staff to undemine other counci1members. Council shoud work with Staff to improve the ocmounity for all. If all councilmembers would do their mare, Council could reduce a lot of high priced Staff time. If Council works towards these goals, the Ci ty will be on the right track for years to 0CIDe.
