Mayor HeibDan stated that prior to his camPJ1gn he <br />stated that cnnmunication is important, he still feels cxmnunication is <br />important and that there is more that can be done to improve oanmunications <br />bebleen Cbuncil and c1 Uzens. Mayor Bei tman stated that the land! ill is still <br />a problen and without appropriate legislation, RlInsey will not have the <br />safeguards and assistance it needs as a host cxmnuni ty. Wi th respect to the <br />airport, Council has indicated willingness to CCI1ItIit a~roximately $500,000 of <br />Ci ty money to ai rport developnent, this warrants the taxpayers invol venent. <br />Mayor Heibnan enoourages the citizens to get involved and let their voices be <br />heard. Mayor Bei bnan stated that he would like to see more aggressive <br />enforcement of ordinances on the lx>oks; it is up to Council, as residents, to <br />make sure those ordinances are enforced appropriately. Mayor Bel tman stated <br />that he wants to maintain a realistic approach to the services and desires of <br />the ci tizens. Mayor Bei tman stated that it takes Cbuncil and oi tizen <br />involvement to make this goverment effective. <br /> <br />C"A~ 'l! Apn:aArlllnc!p 'lY S~natnr Greq 1l1:41)'! <br /> <br />Senator Dahl stated that the 1986 legislative session will not be an easy one, <br />there is a State deficit of $700,000,000 but because of a 'rainy day' fund that <br />was established, the State will only have to deal wi th a shortfall of <br />$400,000,000. Senator Dahl. stated that he has made a cxmnibnent to deal with <br />deficit without raising taxes or cutting education aids. Senator Dahl. stated <br />that he is aware of Ramsey's ooncerns regarding the landfill; it has been <br />his privilege to work for a strong Superfund; and he voted to resist all <br />amencbents to weaken the Superfund in the last legislative session. With <br />respect to the RlIII River Bridge Crossing, Senator Dahl stated that it is <br />difficult to obtain special legiSlation for funds for a specific higlrtiay but he <br />does have a good working relationship wi th the Camlissioner of the Deplrbnent <br />of Transportation and he is willing to meet with him regarding this matter. <br />Senator Dahl stated that he was the cilief author of the 'Lemon New Car Bill' <br />and he wants to see those same protections provided for used car buyers. <br />Senator Dahl stated that he is also working on legislation to assist farmers as <br />the Federal Farm Bill was less than hoped for. Senator Dahl stated that he is <br />researdling a pragran wher~ State revenues that do mt have to be spent <br />iIllnediately oould be deposi ted in rural banks with the understanding that those <br />funds be used to make short term operating loans to farmers. Senator Dahl. <br />stated that he is also working on: legislation to prohibit merdlants fran <br />adding a surdlarge to credi t card purdlases, encouraging pension fund <br />investiment, establishing a Minnesota 'C' Capital Fund to assist businesses in <br />getting started, pirk legislation in Anoka Cbunty, bank legislation, watershed <br />board legislation, cleaning up Crooked Lake and storm shelters and tie-downs <br />for mobile home residences.
