JULY 15, 1988 FIELD INSPECTIONS
Page Two

Standing at the top of the slope where it has been
reconstructed, the fill material has settled and there are
3-inch wide gaps where the soil could erode if heavy rains
were to occur. However, vegetation has been established
over the entire eroded area. The riprap placement at the
base of the slope would require a DNR permit and I advised
Mr. Reid of the requirements for installation of flanking,
filter fabric, and rock size.

They also are planning to install an at-grade stairw'ay
system which \,10uld involve the use of treated timbers
installed in-grade with filter fabric beneath the timbers
with vertical reinforcement bar to stabilize the timbers
from movement. Along with the stairway, they propose a
dock at the shoreline. I provided Mr. Reid with a copy of
our brochure pertaining to stairways and docks and
informed him that if a permit is proposed to Elvin
Erickson he would use this brochure as a guide for
issuance of permits. Mr. Reid agreed that the 16-f oot
length limit was appropriate and also agreed that the
design looked workable for the site. In addition, Mr.
Reid will prepare detailed plans for all proposed work for
submission to Elvin Erickson and myself.

L294:1kr

cc: Bill Zachmann, Central Waters
Elvin Erickson, City of Ramsey
Anne Norris, City of Ramsey ~

'3~
