FINANCE UPDATE By: Jessie Hart, Finance Officer CASE# F c., This case is meant to "update" the Finance Committee and City Council on events taking place in or around the Finance Department. Public Hearinfj - 1996 General Fund Budget The public hearing for the 1996 General Fund Budget is scheduled for Wednesday, November 29, 1995, at 7:00 p.m. The information that will be presented at the public hearing will coincide with the maximum levy that was adopted and certified to Anoka County in September. The "Proposed Tax Statements" hit the streets during the last two weeks. We have had several calls pertaining to property value increases and only one that questioned the City's increase, which also came down to a value increase causing the taxes to increase more. Calls questioning property values are being forwarded to the Anoka County Assessor's office. While I have a substantial portion of the public hearing documentation prepared, it is not complete and therefore does not accompany this agenda packet. I hope to have the information complete on Monday and will have the packets delivered to each Councilmember to review prior to Wednesday's meeting. The information is consistent with the recommendations made when the proposed levy was presented and adopted in September. There were a few other changes that impacted the numbers and those will be detailed in a brief memo accompanying the information. Computer System Update The hardware and most of the software for the new computer system has been installed and is being used by most everyone. The network, which includes Mac's and PC's is operating well. There have been some glitches but most have been resolved rather quickly. We are still in the process of upgrading the word processing and spread sheet programs to higher versions for the Mac's. This will make it simpler when "sharing" files between Mac's and PC's. As part of the network everyone has access to the same in-box or mail system so Mac's can converse with PC's and visa versa. We have ordered the necessary modems so that within a few weeks, if not sooner, we will have at least one Mac located at the Public Works Facility so that they have access to the network and the in-box system. We are in the process of training PC users (primarily Police and Finance) in the use of Windows and the word processing. Additional and more intense training will be an ongoing process for all users on the network.
