6.2 Traditional Cick l eaye-and-Earned Sick and Safe Time (ESST) <br />Traditional sick leave shall include and may be authorized when the employee is unable to perform <br />work duties due to illness, disability, the necessity for medical, dental, or chiropractic care, <br />childbirth, or exposure to contagious disease th t y where such exposure may endanger the <br />health of others with whom the employee would come into contact while in the course of <br />performing work duties. _Traditional sick leave may also be authorized_, when the employee's <br />illness in the employee's immediate family. For the .0 .ose of this .olic "immmediate family", <br />is for the purposes of this policy, shall be defined as pl yee's spouse, parent, step parent, <br />children, step children, brother, sister, grandparents, grandchildren, or a similar family mcmbcr <br />like member of the employee's spouse's family. <br />Traditional sick may ly be used for the reasonsas listed above and does not include the expanded <br />ESST uses and expanded ESST family members covered by_as it may differ from ESST. <br />E p1 vecslt may find it beneficial to benefit employees to first draw upon the traditional sick <br />leave accrual f t, provided so long as the reason for using sick leave meets the traditional sick <br />leave criteria, and save their ESST time for situations that require the expanded uses allowed under <br />ESST. <br />To be eligible for traditional sick leave with pay, an employee mustshall: <br />11 (1) Rreport as soon as possible to the EMPLOYEE'S p1 yee's Ddepartment Hhead <br />the need for sick leave and whether the sick leave is for the employee thciremployce's <br />child, adult child, spouse, sibling, parent, grandparent or stepparent,; <br />II—(2) Kkeep the employee's Ddepartment Hhead informed of the need for continued sick <br />leave if the absence is of more than three (3) days duration <br />1—(3) Ssubmit a medical certificate for any absence if required by the CityC.ty <br />Administrator,; <br />(1) Pprovide the employer with sufficient information needed in order to comply with <br />the Family and Medical Leave Act. <br />Eligible uses of earned sick and safe time include: <br />The employee's own mental or physical illness, treatment, or preventive care. <br />A family member's mental or physical illness, treatment, or preventive care. <br />Absence due to domestic abuse sexual assault, or stalking of the employee or a family <br />member. <br />Closure of the employee's workplace due to weather or a public emergency, or closure of a <br />family member's school or care facility for the same reasons. <br />A determination by a health authority or healthcare professional that the employee or a <br />family member is at risk of infecting others with a communicable disease. <br />Eligible family members for earned sick and safe time include: <br />301Page <br />
