A single paroel property may oontain many aores but have only a small portion developed. The various categories that we use for land use breakdowns were established in 1962. The definitions of these categories has remained the same for all of the land use updates (1970, 1975, 1980, 1984, 1990). They are as follows: RESIDENTIAL single family - includes all individual, free standing single family housing and manufactured homes. Single - Family: within the MUSA or in residential developments we used the lot lines that could be seen on the photo. If a residential development was not fully developed, and one could determine that not all of the lots were development, that area of the development was considered vacant." Only the amount of lot usage for Freestanding residences was assigned to the residential category. In the rural area (outside the MUSA) a template was used to determine the area for an isolated houses. We do not have adequate plat maps for each MOD nor were we interested in making a parcel map for the region. since were only interested in the amount of land consumed we did not want to use plat maps which show ownership not land use. Multi- family - includes all multiple dwelling units such as duplexes, bungalows, twin homes, townhouses, quad homes and apartment complexes. Only the portion of the property that was used for buildings and parking was measured. COMMERCIAL - includes all retail sales, services (including professional) hotel/motels and all of those recreational services that are predominantly privately owned and operated for profit (for example theaters, bowling alleys equestrian ranches) .
