This plan amendment is a
modification of the ro osed MUSA ex ansion that was submitted to ou on October 20,
I . The ny sta has met with the Metropolitan Council staff and developed this
proposed MUSA expansion. The proposed increase is a total of 1 ,455 acres. As the table
below indicates, over 70 percent ot thIS expanslOn is not developable due to wetlands or to
previously developed property.

Undevelopable

Developed
Property

Developa ble
Property

Gross
Area

* Includes Landfill Property

The City of Ramsey has completed this MUSA expansion request after reviewing the
.. Current development trends in the City and the projected growth in the City for the future
. years. These growth patterns indicate that the current available residential property in the
MUSA (35 acres) will be used up by early 1994. This will effectively prevent any further
construction of residential housing in the City. According to the Minneaoolis Star Tribune,
dated June 27, 1993, the City of Lakeville estimates it has enough land within the MUSA
to last 17 years. According to the same article, Woodbury has 3,000 acres of residential
and 1,500 acres of commercial industrial land available within the MUSA, which will take
them to the year 2010.

The City of Ramsey, unlike many of the suburbs in the Southern Merro Area, has provided
for the development of housing for all levels of society from the first time home buyer on
up. This housing diversity is supported by an article from the June 27, 1993 Minneapolis

[
[
[
[

l
l
