During the winter, the pond serves as an ice- skating
rink. Access is good from Kamacite Street and 150th Avenue
N.W. Consideration should be given to reshaping the area- -
around the pond, and additional planting and smoothing out
the terrain. This then would lend itself to such improve-
ments as walking paths, an aesthetic viewing area, child-
ren's play areas and allow for a shelter.
Proposal
Because this 11.9 acre site probably has the most potential
for becoming the nicest mixed use area in the City, it is
proposed that the park be developed to the extent of clean-
ing brush, cleaning the shoreline of the pond, making walk-
ways, improving on the playground area, and making plantings
of various kinds for shade, screening and visual enhance-
ment. It is also proposed that additional acreage at the
south end of the site be acquired and developed as a con-
necting corridor from Peltzer to the sanitary landfill --
which is proposed as a large community or possibly a
regional recreation site.
F. FORD BROOK MINI PARK
This site is developed to the extent of a neighborhood is
mini - playground -- playground equipment, benches, small
amount of open area and newly planted tree seedlings.
Ford Brook Park is a relatively flat area of 3.6 acres, of
which approximately one acre is usable for its playground
purpose. Since this is in the proximity of Riverwood 1 and
'2, these combined facilities will provide the needed neigh-
borhood recreational space. Access is by 180th Avenue N.W.
only. Equipment at the park is: 1 swing set, 1 grill, 1
picnic table, 1 slide, 1 monkey bar, and 1 sandbox.
Proposal
This park should be kept in mind for upgrading and develop-
ment as the City expands. As soon as possible, trees should
be planted to buffer the park from the residential area
and to give shade to the park area. Much more interesting
play equipment could be incorporated to provide a multi-
use, well designed park.
G. BROOKVIEW MINI PARK
Broken up into two different areas, this is a delightful
park of 3.3 acres along the Rum River. The park has
been developed with picnic tables, grills, swing sets,
and some playground equipment.
82
