The following Mini -Parks are spread throughout the City and should
be developed to serve the local area:
Ford Brook MINI PARK
This site is developed to the extent of a neighborhood mini - playground
playground equipment, benches, small amount of open area and newly
planted tree seedlings.
Ford Brook Park is a relatively flat area of 3.6 acres, of which
approximately one acre is usable for its playground purpose.
Since this is in the proximity of Riverwood 1 and 2, these com-
bined facilities will provide the needed neighborhood recreational
space. Access is by 180th Avenue N.W. only. Equipment at the
park is: 1 swing set, 1 grill, 1 picnic table, 1 slide, 1 mon-
key bar, and 1 sand box.
Proposal
This park should be kept in mind for upgrading and development as
the City expands. As soon as possible, trees should be planted to
buffer the park from the residential area and to give shade to the
park area. Much more interesting play equipment could be incorporated
to provide a multi -use, well designed park.
Riverwood 1 MINI PARK
A flat and sandy area of 1.5 acres, it is only partially developed
with a sandlot backstop. Access to the park is fairly good, with
two ends of the area extending to Erkium and Fluorine Streets,
which both extend to County Road 7. Because of its location, no
expansion is needed. Like Ford Brook, the area is too small to
support a concentrated population, but with Riverwood 2 and Ford
Brook in the immediate area the problem is greatly eased.
Proposal
No new acquisition is proposed for this 1.5 acre site, due to its
placement with the surrounding areas. Recreation facilities, land-
scaping and plantings are proposed for future development.
Brookview, MINI PARK
Broken up into two different areas, this is a delightful park of
3.3 acres along the Rum River. The park has been developed with
picnic tables, grills, swing sets and some playground equipment.
This park serves as a rest stop for conoeists and has served as a
launching point for some canoers and kayakers. The heavily wooded
steep bank on the west side of the park serves as a good buffer
between park activities and Germanium Street. A smaller detached
portion of Brookview Park lies across Germanium Street from the main
park area, and fronts 170th Avenue. This site is presently unused.
It most likely will not support any activities in the future, with
the exception of parking -- if demand necessitates.
16
