19. Where more than one (1) tank is used to obtain the required <br />liquid volume, the tanks shall be connected in series. <br />a. Each tank shall comply with all other provisions of <br />Chapter 150.01.4C. <br />b. No more than four (4) tanks in series can be used to <br />obtain the required liquid volume. <br />c. The first tank shall be no smaller than any subsequent <br />tanks in series. <br />20. Aerobic tanks. Aerobic tank treatment systems shall comply <br />with the general requirements for sewage tanks set forth in Subd. <br />2, and with the following: <br />a. The treatment system including each individual unit or <br />compartment shall be easily accessible for inspection <br />and maintenance and shall be provided with secured <br />covers. <br />b. The raw sewage flow from the dwelling shall be <br />intercepted by a trash trap prior to its entering the <br />aeration <br />g- <br />Capacity <br />c. The trash trap shall be readily accessible for <br />inspection and effective cleaning and shall be so <br />constructed as to prevent unauthorized entry. <br />d. The aeration compartment shall have a minimum holding <br />capacity of 500 gallons or 120 gallons per bedrom, which <br />ever is greater. <br />e. The method of aeration shall be accomplished by <br />mechanical aeration, diffused air, or both. The method <br />used shall maintain aerobic conditions at all times. <br />f. The settling compartment shall have a minimum net <br />holding capacity equal to 20 percent of the volume of <br />the aeration compartment. The design shall provide for <br />effective settling and continuous return of settled <br />sludge to the aeration compartment. <br />A minimum one year warranty and an initial two year <br />service contract which specified regular inspection <br />calls and effluent quality checks shall be provided as a <br />part of the purchase agreement. <br />h. All other features of the aerobic tanks not specifically <br />mentioned above shall comply with National Sanitation <br />Foundation Standard No. 40 (November, 1970). <br />
