12. Sanitary tees shall be at least four (4) inches in diameter. <br />Inlet baffles shall be no less than six (6) inches or no more <br />than twelve (12) inches measured from the end of the inlet pipe <br />to the nearest point on the baffle. Outlet baffles shall be six <br />(6) inches, measured from the beginning of the outlet pipe to the <br />nearest point on the baffle. <br />13. There shall be one (1) or more manholes, at least twenty (20) <br />inches in dimension, and located within six (6) feet of any wall <br />of the tank. The manhole shall extend to a point within twelve <br />(12) inches of, but no closer than six (6) inches below, finished <br />grade. The manhole cover shall be covered with at least six (6) <br />inches of earth. <br />14. There shall be an inspection pipe of at least four (4) inches <br />diameter or a manhold over both the inlet and outlet devices. <br />The inspection pipe shall extend through the cover and be flush <br />with, or no more than six (6) inches below, the finished grade. <br />The top of the inspection pipe shall be provided with a readily <br />removable water -tight cap. A downward projection of the <br />centerline of the inspection pipe shall be directly in line with <br />the center line of the inlet or outlet device. <br />15. Compartmentation. Septic tanks larger than <br />(3,000) gallons and fabricated as a single unit <br />into two (2) or more compartments. <br />a. When a septic tank is divided into two <br />not less than one -half (1/2), nor more <br />(2/3) of the total volume, shall be in <br />compartment. <br />three thousand <br />shall be divided <br />(2) compartments, <br />than two - thirds <br />the first <br />b. When a septic tank is divided into three (3) or more <br />compartments, one -half (1/2) of the total volume shall <br />be in the first compartment and the other one -half (1/2) <br />equally divided in the other compartments. <br />16. Connections between compartments shall be baffles so as to <br />obtain effective retention of scum and sludge. The submergence <br />of the inlet and outlet baffles of each compartment shall be as <br />specified in paragraphs 7 and 8 above. <br />17. Adequate venting shall be provided between compartments by <br />baffles or by an opening of at least fifty (50) square inches <br />near the top of the compartment wall. <br />18. Adequate access to each compartment shall`be' provided by one <br />(1) or more manholes, at least twenty (20) inches in dimension, <br />and located within six (6) feet of any wall of the tank. The <br />manhole shall extend to a point within twelve (12) inches, but <br />not closer than six (6) inches, below finished grade. The <br />manhole cover shall be covered with at least six (6) inches of <br />earth. <br />
