We believe that without the local
knowledge that City officials and residents bring to the project, no amount
of professional expertise will yield a wholly satisfactory solution. HKGi
is the leader in the use of a consent building approach that blends the
creativity of the public and decision makers with the professional planning
expertise offered by HKGi. Our clients seek our guidance because of
our ability to resolve conflict and build consent. We are frequently
asked to facilitate in difficult problem solving circumstances. We are
also very familiar with Hans Bleiker's Systematic Development of
Informed Consent (SDIC) and the variety of public participation
techniques available to aid the public and decision makers in reaching
consent.

Innovative Approaches

Trained and Experienced Facilitators. As a pioneer in public process,
HKGi has used many innovative techniques to get large numbers of
people successfully and productively involved in community planning
efforts. We are the acknowledged leaders in community-based planning
because we are able to draw from a broad-based experience (over 25
years) and a whole variety of techniques in accordance with SDIC
guidelines including forums, open houses, focus groups and many others.
We employ highly interactive and visual approaches which allow
participants to build on their own ideas and immediately see the results
of their input.

Place Appropriate Planning. HKGi employs a unique approach
termed "place appropriate" planning and design which builds on already
existing natural, historical and cultural characteristics and patterns to
serve as the framework for planning. This approach reveals the
strengths that already exist in the City to serve as the building blocks
for the future.

Strategic Planning. HKGi employs a strategic planning approach
that links plans with solutions. We have no interest in producing plans
that wi11lay dormant on a shelf. Our interest is to find creative and
affordable ways to make the right things happen.
