e

e

RAMSEY
"What Does This Place Want To Be?"
SUMMARY
VISIONING SESSION
September 18, 1997

INTRODUCTION

The Ramsey Visioning Session was held at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 18, 1997
at the Ramsey Elementary School. Approximately 96 residents and businesspersons
participated in the Visioning Session. Participants were randomly assigned to 16 small
groups. A series of questions were asked to which each small group responded.

OPENING EXERCISE-"What is this place?"

The following questions were asked of the participants: What is this place? What
characteristics define Ramsey? What makes Ramsey "Ramsey"? The following
verbatim responses were recorded on a flip chart from any and all that offered them:

. Abundant natural resources (trees, open space, bodies of water)
. Urban, rural crossroads (causes conflicts)
. Semi-rural/diverse population
. Place where the City meets the Country
. Quiet place
. Place of a "landfill"
. Abundant used car lots
. Not fun to drive through
. Need for central shopping district
. Clean community with clean air
. Low-crime
. Abundant choice and variety of churches
. Private community (able to see the stars at night)
. City of neighborhoods
. Lots of open space
. Place to live and not work
. Place of two (Mississippi and Rum) rivers (or 3, Trott Brook)
. Community with no distinct development patterns
. Abundant economical/affordable housing
. Dangerous streets near school
. Blue collar perception, but a good mix of blue and white collar exists
. Horse country
. Limited public transportation opportunities
. No longer a secret
. Legacy of Landfill
. Land of nostalgia
. Land of failing family farms
. Land of contradictions
. Land of beautiful oak woods

Page 1

Ramsey Vision Session Report
