The ordinance was reviewed by Metropolitan Council and <br />Anoka County prior to adoption. The City will work through the development process to provide <br />trail right-of-way in accord with the ordinance. <br /> <br />Figure 3 illustrates the proposed trail location and trail right-of-way widths. It is intended <br />that the trail east of the Anoka County Park will be a single paved treadway serving primarily <br />pedestrian and bikes. It's recognized that these users would ideally be on separate treadways <br />where high volumes of use are expected, however, no use projections have been generated by <br />either the County or MC. <br /> <br />The proposed Rivenwick Addition will allow for the trail corridor being connected to the Anoka <br />County Park located along the river. This section of trail will be connected as shown in Figure 3 <br />with other trail sections located to the east approaching the eastern City limits. The inclusion of <br />this section will complete the trail up to the proposed Mississippi River Bridge crossing leaving <br />a section approximately 2 1/4 miles to the western City boundary. <br /> <br />The trail right-of-way west of the Anoka County Park is wider and is intended to provide a <br />paved tre.adway for bikes and pedestrians and a separate turftreadway for horses and possibly <br />cross country skiing. With the future bridge crossing, a long term goal is to link this trail with <br />the trails in Elm Creek Regional Park. <br /> <br />Interface with City Park System <br /> <br />The City recently adopted a revised parks plan as shown on Figure 3 (May 22, 1990) which <br />integrates the Mississippi River Corridor trail with other elements of the City's parks plan. <br /> <br />The basic concept of the parks plan is to continue to develop organized athletic facility <br />complexes at Central Park, expansion of Central Park and providing additional area for athletic <br />fields nearer the urban area. <br /> <br />27 <br />
