A scan for information on public opinion related to parks or trails was <br />conducted. The November/December, 1994 issue (Volume 9, Number 9), page 7, <br />contained an article by Mark Boos, Parks/Utilities Supervisor on the Lake Itasca Trail. <br />The trail is described as a 75 foot corridor on the east side of the brook. For future use, a <br />westerly portion can be used for horses, mountain bikes, cross-country skiers or other <br />activities. This article specifically stated no motorized vehicles will be allowed on this <br />trail. Any future expansion would be a mowed or wood-chipped trail. <br /> <br />In the July/August, 1995 issue, an article stated the City Council desired to <br />allocate funds first in areas with the greatest population densities. Hence, areas of <br />Ramsey with large lot rural development generally rank lower in priority. On August 22, <br />1995, the City Council approved the Park and Recreation commissions' recommended <br />Capital Improvement Program for 1996 - 2001. <br /> <br />The January/February, 1996 issue contained the Annual Report of the Parks and <br />Recreation Commission. This report stated that the City of Ramsey has 118.4 acres of <br />developed park land and more than 500 acres of undeveloped or natural park space. <br /> <br />In the JUne, 1996 issue, an article discussed the funding of the Lake Itasca Trail. <br />Money came from interest earnings of the Landfill Trust Fund and Park Dedication fees <br />from new developments. In addition, Anoka Electric Cooperative donated used cedar <br />power poles and Oman Brothers Blacktop Inc. donated $5,000 worth of paving for the <br />completed portion of the Lake Itasca Trail. <br /> <br />Public Issues Related to Surrounding Land <br /> <br />The City of Ramsey will need ownership of all the property along the Trott Brook <br /> <br />corridor. <br /> <br />18 <br />
