I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I

the data collected for the three questions related to recreation and trails.

Table 7. Anoka High School survey

Question 4: What type
of recreational facilities
would you like to see, or
see more of, in Ramsey
in the next fifteen years?

Question 5: What
acti'/ities should a
recreational trail system
in Ramsey be designed
for? Please check one
top priority.

Question 6: Assuming
other recreational
facilities receive the
attention they deserve,
would you favor or
oppose creation of such
a recreational trail
system in Ramsey over
the next 15 years.

(Please check up to three top
priorities.)

The top response, 265, was for
recreational trails; followed by 219
for nature trails with explanatory
signposts. The fifth highest response
was for a nature area/interpretive
center. Number three was an outdoor
swimming pool; four an indoor pool.
The other responses ranked in order
were playgrounds, baseball and
softball fields, tennis courts, sand
volleyball courts, football and soccer
fields, basketball courts and
horseshoe pits.

The top response (189) said the trail
system should serve all of the above
(included walking and jogging,
biking and skating, cross-country
skiing, snowmobiling, horseback
riding). The second response was
walking and jogging (176), followed
by biking and skating (124), cross
country skiing (61), "I do not favor a
recreational trail system" (48),
snowmobiling (38), horseback riding
(17), and other (15).

389 were in favor, 67 opposed, and
39 undecided.

There is wide support for
recreational trails, including
those with a nature education
emphasis. Most people want a
pool. 384 individuals checked
at least one of the two pool
options, that is 77% of the
respondents to this question
(74 persons checked both
options). Playgrounds are
supported by many. The least
supported options were
horseshoe pits, basketball
courts and sand volleyball
courts.

Just over a third of the
respondents favored the fully
multi-use trail option. A third
supported walking and
jogging trails specifically. And
biking and skating trails
garnered a quarter of the
checks. Little support for
horseback riding and
snowmobiling.

4 to 5 support the trail system
creation given the terms of the
question.

17
