<br />CASE # I <br /> <br />CONSIDER AWARD OF BIDS FOR DIVISIONS B SCHEDULE A <br />OF THE 2006 STREET MAINTENANCE PROGRAM <br />By: Steven Jankowski, City Engineer <br /> <br />Background: <br /> <br />Bids were opened on July 11, 2006 for Divisions B & C ofthe 2006 Street Maintenance program <br />and proposals were received from three bidders as follows: <br /> <br />Bidder <br />Bauerly Companies <br />W.B. Miller Inc <br />Hardrive <br /> <br />Division B <br />$1,309,319.98 <br />$1,520,921.51 <br />$1,656,544.00 <br /> <br />Division C <br />$180,242.43 <br />$225,431.25 <br />$229,253.70 <br /> <br />Council will recaU.that on July 25.2006 Schedule B of Division B.in the amount of$419,172.18 <br />and Division C in the amount of$74,167.66 were awarded to Bauerly Brothers, the low <br />responsible bidder. Schedule A of Division B which included the bituminous overlay work was <br />not awarded at that time because the bids exceeded more than 10% of the estimated cost. A <br />public hearing was held on August 14, 2006 on the proposed assessments for this work which <br />included Improvement Projects 06-04, 05,06, 07, 08, 09 and 11. Assessments for these projects <br />were levied at 110% of those costs identified in the feasibility study. City Code and State statutes <br />. allow a 30 day period within which assessed properties may challenge the assessment. No . <br />challenges have been received as ofthe date ofthis writing, and the 30 day period ends on <br />September 13,2006. This portion of the work is now eligible to be awarded without challenge to <br />the assessment. . <br /> <br />A preconstruction conference has been scheduled for Friday, September 15 so that this work may <br />begin as soon as possible. It is estimated that an average of eight to nine working days would be <br />required to place tonnage of bitumin pus required for the overlay project. <br /> <br />Recommendations: <br /> <br />Staff recommends that Schedule A of Division B be awarded to Bauerly Companies in the bid <br />amount of$890,145.80. <br /> <br />Action: <br /> <br />Motion to adopt Resolution 06-09-XXX awarding Schedule A of Division B to Bauerly <br />Companies in the bid amount of$890,145.80. <br /> <br />Reviewed By: <br />Public Works Director/Principal Engineer <br />Fire Chief <br />Finance Officer <br />Street Supervisor <br />City Attorney <br /> <br />CC: 09/14/06 <br /> <br />1 <br />
