4.2 Respondent Background and Definition of Public Art <br /> Community A <br /> City Administrator/Man <br /> This respondent serves as the City Manager in Community A and has been in his position for <br /> approximately nine years. He is the chief administrative officer of the city and supervises all city <br /> departments, including Planning and Community Development, and a city Arts Center that help <br /> coordinate public art projects within the community. He is in the 45-59 age bracket, has a <br /> Bachelor's degree in Public Administration with additional coursework, and lives in a <br /> neighboring community. His definition of public art includes that it is available for anybody that <br /> comes through the community, including residents,business owners, and visitors. It is defined <br /> as being available for all to experience, to see it, and touch it. It includes both temporary and <br /> permanent installations. <br /> Elected official <br /> This respondent is an elected official in Community A and is currently in his second year <br /> as Mayor. He previously served on the City Council for seven years. In his position, he <br /> oversees budgets for the community, that includes his authorizing and promoting public art <br /> programs as a member of the Council. He is in the 45-59 age bracket, has a Bachelor's degree in <br /> Computer Science, and has lived in the community since 1996. His definition of public art is <br /> that it is accessible to everyone. It can be located on public property of private property. The <br /> community doesn't distinguish between multiple categories of the public, however, does <br /> prioritize public art for pedestrian and bicycle users. In his opinion, public art can be both <br /> sculptural and functional. It provides the feeling that this place is unique. <br /> 84 <br />
