through the City's established transparent and accountable municipal procure-
ment processes can help the Division to attract a broader range of artists and
project concepts, and create new pathways for original projects.
1.7 Encourage new methods of community-engaged pubfic artworks in a varietyof media
A community-engaged public art work is a project that is developed in close
collaboration with its intended community. Community-engaged public art
works often stand as catalysts for community development and revitalization,
and are developed through participatory processes engaging local residents
and partners. Community-engaged artists devote considerable time to working
with a community to develop their project concept, and come away with a
project that is deeply connected to and relevant for its local audience.
Encouraging more community-engaged public art works will require rethinking
the commissioning processes for the City's Public Art and Monuments Collection.
For example, Economic Development and Culture typically commissions an artist
with a fully-developed project concept. By contrast,for a community-engaged
project, EDC could commission an artist first, and allow them to develop their
project concept with the community afterwards. Partnering with Toronto's arts
organizations, such as the network of Local Arts Service Organizations, could
also enhance the commissioning process for community-engaged works.
61'
,r VVII
"v ,,,,,, I!u",n ,.,, uirw ,r.r y m i^; uv!!,,✓)V1yI,,. ,trr i r r^V a wi J r ,V V✓>,
IIL
z
l
m u r r,., w„u4 ,;:, ,iu: w r"d ii ° Vv ftlw m"i i dI N wi,v r, „" ,'✓
„u,
iy,r,,,, ,
Ji ;,,, ""w„ ,» r✓,, 'f 'i
`"" ,. a rV,i w r it"' hvi(G i I, rL - ➢ 1w u"
4WV^' W,.
 r rrr
l
J
,w rrr' r
o
d✓rc'wlll,1Y rgy :i i',. f/J1 _;, m'r///i % i
r
r
r ,r'r'ivfr J r/J° r ;,; p'r,"... rY JV ✓rcrlf'wjr „r
iiii I, °11rIV I , r G✓ f✓/r+ r.., c.: ,., Wn"„^;trw g(.' h;pfi r",/'IfrU,.r7';iWii ,"" Im,wmrr'"'air,,,.
)9) '"" l 1/,,:yr,rayrt l for r, '%r/ ,,G Hr✓ IV,J,,,%,l uVlr re p;,,
fi
r r
rr"y
I
fi ry
Y l 1, If plr ,,i'., " i'I rji„I.'rV 20l,",,^'r',; JivlAl4:.al`r,, „✓r ,n/// `, i rJ, ; ywr f%am"r: .,,, ,
,,,,,,, ,,, (! u ,.Ifi,",r.. ,af..„ u „r^II ,i ,,. u,,.:,,,, r ea✓; -a ,..1,;riwrr;lqY,"„",,. „
;,,,, ✓I//,,,,/ ,.. r r /,'7j ..-,. r gi7/.. lr/n a^ iur Y',,; ,xr ,,,.,:, a.,r «l'1ui>,, vi,,. .
„b r ., .,;'f ,,,. i.,r 1 YI 'VI,,I« ,, ,,.,.ai ., ✓u,7r.",: s. ri i„iiui:it", 4fr it wJr,Nl-:li r' +
V,r 7.✓u ,r rr i„ /'ry iJ,.,1 "ri 1Yl dry rf ;81io v^^„ r„r`>l,lVii
'i , If ;.. r, ,"r"ii YAG41;, P"° r us,,,,: lu, ,,✓3 y.I,✓iNlAlayXr/WW yr ,. iu,M
I.
rifle r V1 r r r it rr /u a/r1r'i/i;Yil,dl;r rr,,," ;,,,,r;,, iiw uv8,ol,,auuiJ,yiOlrvr 16.1¢u„
im,,,,,, 4uw„vnr,: rai/rii✓/r j✓ ,rr raerw,,,,, ,
Vui V r, i .,rrcwrwmwra✓
r r
l; I
/i i i i
120 o. o
-2617
6
Wirors,
,ufi 11IM JYJIwGw die /'
Toronto Public Art Strategy 2020/2030 33
