The facility will process 100 tons a day of material and it will be very important to develop a go<x] product, He commented that their facility located in Fairfield, Connecticut, is right down the street from a housing development, lvk. Hanahan then asked for comments and questions. Becky Lemke stated her main concern is with the storage area. She inquired if the stored materials (yard waste and leaves) will have to be turned so they don't go anaerobic. Mr. Hanahan repl/ed that the material will not be stored long enough to go anaerobic. I I I I A resident inqUired how the materials would get to the facility and how many trips that would amount to per day. Mr. Hanahan replied that thc material would be trucked in and it would amount to about 15 to 20 mucks per day. Mayor Gilbertson commented that he had thus far heard only positive comments and inquired if there were any negatives. Ivlr. Louis Naylor stated he has worked with each of the 15 operations to get them started and they have never shut down for any purpose. Some of these facilities have biofilters and. some do not, some are near residential neighborhoods, some are not, some are right in town and some are in commercial areas. There have never been any serious problems, I I I I Ivir. Otter stated he too had raised that same question. John Lucia stated that if the materials will be collected from restaurants, what's to say there will not be any pop cans or plastics in the material and how will those things get separated out. I I ]Vn-. Hanahan stated that it will be made very clear to their..customers to try to avoid this happening. He added that if it does happen, the material is inspected at the front of the facility and anything that doesn't belong in there will be taken out. The materials will be screened. lvir. Lucia stated he used to work for a company that was located by a recycling plant. They (recycling plant) promised to be odor free but it was not. lvir. Naylor stated he could not answer for that company but IPS has not had that problem. I I I Mr. Lucia called attention to the pumps shown on the sketch of the landfill and inquired about sludge ponds and water flow. He stated the pumps are north of that area and expressed concern for future contamination. Mr. Otter informed Mx. Lucia there are no sludge ponds on the property. There are sedimentation basins for the routing of surface water from the landfill and from the proposed plant. Mx. Naylor stated that the composting facility would be receiving only solids. Sharon Dahlgren inquired about proteins picked up from restaurants if that would be a problem. Ivir.
