.

.

.

and Sons, Inc. and Faye Construction Canparw. '!hese comp:mies have acquired
and assembled prop!rty in the vicinity of the old DeZiel's cafe. '!hEy have
assembled that acreage for future developnent of a COIl'Inercial nature and th~
are ooncerned about this prop.>sed airp.>rt. stage I of developnent would
include acquiring fran ny clients 9.2 acres of sane of the most desirable
prop!rty in Ramsey tecause it abuts the highway. Stage II would include
acquiring a oonsiderable amount of additional acreage belong to Schwartzman.
~ clients did not buy this land to sell to Ramsey for an airp.>rt and th~ are
definitely ooncerned about their investment. In sitting here and listening to
Mr. Larsen, I wonder how I would 2UlS'ler his questions. 'Ihere is already a
Metro Airp.>rts COIrmission in the metro area1 this Comnission and Metro Council
are well aware of the fact that there is a need for additional small airp.>rt
facilities in the area. '!he Metro Airports CoImIission has professionals that
know what is necessary to establish an airp.>rt; let then select an airp.>rt site
in this northern area1 let then fund it and spread the oost over the entire
metro area. If I lived in Ramsey, I would favor the method I have just
suggested. It would ~ a good idea for the City of Ramsey to work with the
Metro Air{X>rts COIrmission to find a suitable airp.>rt site and if I were a
citizen I would ~ agreeable to ny lOOney being spent in that way. I understand
fran prior meetings that this Con'mission has been instructed not to look at any
other sites in Ramsey. ~ guess is that if the Metro Airp.>rts CoIrmissioner
were to come out and look around Ramsey, th~ would not select the site the
existing site for an airp.>rt. FOurteen families would te disp.>sitioned in
Stage I of developnent; the Gateway site is in a relatively oongested area and
I don't oonsider it a 'oornfield' area at all. 'Ihis is an area where land
costs will anount to a lot of IOOney1 land acquisition would not oost so much in
the oorthwest oorner of the Ci. ty . '!here really isn't any roan for expansion at
the Gateway site; the Gateway facility would te a minimlJll facility so anall
that it would not have FAA's oomplete blessing. I would select a site suitable
for expansion with less oongestion and lower land costs. ~ clients urge this
Ccmnission to vote this airp.>rt proj ect cbwn and to reconunend that Ci. ty Council
not proceed with it.

Cllairman Ippel - '!he Metro Council, Metro Airp.>rts Comnission, state Dep:lrtment
of Transp.>rtation Aeronautical Division and FM have all teen very much a p:lrt
of what has been hag;Jening in Ramseys airp.>rt master plan study. '!he State is
picking up 80% of the oost of this study. If FM does not give this airport
it's bleSSing, there will te 00 airp.>rt. I think Ramsey can afford the airport
with State and Federal p:lrticip:ltion; without their p:lrticip:ltion, it would not
te feasible. Would you rather have this airp.>rt issue under the control of
Ramsey and it's citizens or would you rather have it handled like pilst issues,
i.e., hazardous waste storage, incinerators, etc. and have Metro Council ram it
down our throats.

Brenda Laska - 7531 l52nd Lane lfi - I live across the street fran the airp.>rt
and our hane almost got hit. Who would buy a hane close to an airp.>rt? If we
wanted to live ~ an airp.>rt we would have moved to Bloanington or Crystal. If
Ramsey has so much money, wlw don't we spend it on our p:lrks - our p:lrks are a
joke. We drive a lot of miles each day to te able to live in Ramsey and bring
our children up in a rur al abnos~ere

Ramona O'Donnell - 7300 l50th Lane lfi - I live in the prop.>sed safety zone1 the
house 150' away fran me would te acquired and their problen would te solved but
August 21, 1985
