<br />) <br /> <br />there is no process to gather nominations other than through staff insight or suggestions from <br />EDA and Council Members. <br /> <br />Member Kiefer stated he would like to see a checklist of what the company has done to be <br />involved in all aspects of the community, such as Happy Days, Safety Camp, business <br />networking, the Environmental Expo, schools, etc. <br /> <br />Member Strommen expressed her preference in the criteria remaining somewhat flexible. She <br />indicated the key is the nomination process, which seems somewhat random. <br /> <br />The EDA discussed the Business of the Year award and nomination process. <br /> <br />The consensus of the EDA was to direct staff to include a nomination form for review by the <br />EDA on the next meeting agenda. Nomination forms should be distributed at business network <br />meetings, included in .the Ramsey Resid~nt, and distributed to theEDA's business list with a <br />letter. from the Chair. Nominated businesses will be evaluated according to the established <br />criteria. <br /> <br />Member Kiefer suggested a picture be taken for the local newspaper of the awarded business of <br />the year. <br /> <br />The EDA reviewed the Ramsey Business Appreciation Day Balance Sheet. The consensus of <br />the EDA was to direct the following regarding the Ramsey Business Appreciation Day Budget: <br />. Increase diversity in the purchased gifts with efforts to spend more money locally in the <br />City of Ramsey <br />. Limit compensations for dinner and golf fees; set criteria and policy on dinner and golf <br />fee compensations according to the relevant laws. Business of the Year compensations <br />should be in one category; staff, Council and EDA compensations should be in a separate <br />category. <br /> <br />Member Strommen indicated the Council will be having a discussion regarding the discretionary <br />budget. Economic Development Coordinator Sullivan suggested the Council provide a <br />recommendation regarding these types of compensations for EDA and staff as part of the <br />discretionary budget discussion. <br /> <br />Motion by Member Elvig, seconded by Member Steffen to direct staff to draft a letter to the City <br />Administrator requesting Council to provide policy direction to the EDA and staff regarding <br />compensated expenditures for golf tournaments and other such activities. <br /> <br />Motion carried. Voting Yes: Chairperson Riley, Members Elvig, Steffen, Kiefer, LeTourneau, <br />Schindel, and Strommen.
