<br />Cmmcilrnernber Cox stated that the realignment can only break away so far <br />from the existing alignment while keeping the alignment as straight as <br />possible. <br /> <br />Dan Ma;innis - stated that the realignment would be alright if the tracks <br />were moved further north than what is proposed. <br /> <br />~like Powers - Stated that realignment would nct take his building, or Peter <br />Chalich's or the McGinnis homestead if the tracks were moved 200 feet <br />further north than what is proposed. <br /> <br />Gilbert Menkveld - Inquired if the project would cost the taxpayers of <br />Ramsey a lot of rroney. <br /> <br />Councilrranber Cox replied that he hopes the project would not cost the <br />tm.-payers a lot but they have a tremendous amount to gain in the proposal; <br />especially those property owners that would gain highway frontage and <br />access via a service road. <br /> <br />Dan Castonguay - Inquired if there would be immediate compensation for any <br />property devalued by the deeding of the easements. <br /> <br />~.ayor Reimann repl ied that he didn't know, but it is a good point. <br /> <br />Councilrranber DeLuca noted that the City has to plan for the future in the <br />best way possible with the least amount of hardship to existing landowners. <br /> <br />Roger lIeyer - Stated that he real izes the safety factor will become greater <br />as population doubles in the next fifteen years but most people would like <br />to knCM if there is a time frame for the relocation project. <br /> <br />t1.ayor Reimann stated that all property owners should be kept informed of <br />any additional information received regarding relocation of the tracks. <br /> <br />Councilmember Cox stated that the time frame would totally depend on <br />available funding. <br /> <br />l>tike Powers - Inquired if the City will continue to issue building permits <br />in this subject area. <br /> <br />Councilrnember Cox stated that the City is obligated to issue building <br />perrnits until a formal determination has been made. <br /> <br />l>tike Powers - Stated that condemning property now would be less expensive <br />than acquiring developed property in the future. <br /> <br />Councilrnernber Cox stated that he does not like condemning property; he <br />would prefer to work sanething out with property a-.'11ers that will benefit <br />everybody. <br /> <br />Gilbert Menkveld - Stated that he has a 5 acre parcel that would be spl it <br />by the realignment; one piece would be landlocked, the other piece would be <br />Ci ty Council/May 19, 1988 <br /> <br />Page 4 of 5 <br /> <br />t\", <br />.' t-- <br />.
