<br />') <br /> <br />L. <br /> <br />During the discussion, comments were made that the City should negotiate <br />for a year around recreational facility at the landfill site and a water <br />system encircling the landfill. <br /> <br />Motion by Commissioner Ippel and seconded by Commissioner Kurak to <br />indicate to City Council that the Econanic Developnent Commission position <br />is that no expansion of the landfill should be permitted and the site <br />should close at it's currently permitted capacity. <br /> <br />Further Discussion: Commissioner Hardin stated that the Commission has not <br />studied the ski hill issue enough to make a recorranendation; there is some <br />good that can come from a ski hill or sane other year around use of that <br />area; sending a message of not favoring any type of negotiations might <br />restrict the outcome of that project; anybody having concerns with the <br />proposal should attend the special Council meeting on March 9. <br />Commissioner Gorecki stated that the Commission has been negotiating with <br />Waste Management to make a positive situation out of a negative situation. <br />Commissioner Muller stated that if it appears the agencies above Ramsey <br />will approve the vertical expansion, then the City should try to gain some <br />benefit out of the situation. Chairman Greenberg stated that he is sure <br />City Council has already made everty effort to have the landfill closed. <br />Commissioner Ippel stated that the City should continue opposing the <br />?ertical expansion until it is mandated. Chairman Greenberg replied that <br />the City is trying to make a positive out of a negative. Commissioner <br />Ippel stated that if the vertical expansion is not approved, the landfill <br />would have to be closed and capped. <br /> <br />l-btion failed. Voting Yes: Commissioners Ippel and Kurak. Voting No: <br />Chairman Greenberg, Commissioners Muller, Wagner, Hardin and Gorecki. <br />Absent: Commissioners Fults and Vevea. <br /> <br />COMMISSION roSINESS <br /> <br />Case #1: SUbcommittee ~rts: <br /> <br />f) Star City Work Program SUbcommittee - <br /> <br />Commissioner Gorecki noted that progress is being made on the Star City <br />tasks even though the deadline for the business surveys was not met. The <br />new deadline for completing the surveys is March 31. Ms. Yvonne Curan is <br />working on the labor survey and the cormnunity prOfile. <br /> <br />a) Legislative Subcommittee - <br /> <br />i.
