Mr. Walker has had an
opportunity to express his abilities and we had comments from others and
he feels he has enough responsibility to make decisions. He has sat through
CommunitySchoo.l and other meetings with diress from the audience. He wondered
if anyone in the audience had to make a decision-and were put in this position,
I. .wonderhow you would react.

Mr. Walkerr~alized a probation period was required, he realized discussion
in regard to his smployment. Don, you did not think this would be a permanent
job forever for the rest of your 'life.

Mr. Walker stated that he has the ability to do the job and in his entire
area of work never really has seen anyone get extended until they are
derelect in duties. He feels he has done an acceptable job.

Motion by Oliphant that Council vote this evening on the employment status df
Mr. Walker.

M?tion died for lack of a second.

Mrs. Oliphant said: What do you want, addi tional input?

Mayor Cox said he listened
he has heard these things.
talk to Don, what is wrong

to the Personnel
Mr. Walker gave
wi th th~t?

Committee and this is the first
his statement. I have an obligation to all taxpayers.

Councilman Gorham: From what is going on now, I don't think this is a fair
way to treat any employee.

Bob Oliphant: What do you want, individual secret meetings?

Mayor Cox: What's wrong wi th my talking to Don.

Bob Oliphant: That depends on what promises or threats are made to him.

Mayor Cox: For my part, I am in favor of scheduling another meeting.
If people are concerned about the status during this period. Mr. Walker is
going to get paid. Mrs. Oliphant you blow it the other way, I have seen
exhibi ts from the sides you work wi th and Don deserves respect and support
of him doing a responsible job and whether I am the Mayor or not I can see
no reason why I could not sit doW[l and ta.Zk to Don. I have no problem wi th
waiting until next Thursday to make the decision. All I am concerned with
is this community and that it has the best administrator possible and I am
not going to make a decision tonight.

Councilwoman Oliphant: I am willing to make a decision.

Councilman Mickelson: It is now forced into a political situation and pressure
is being exerted for a decision.
-".

.:>,
-'to'~
Motion bif Reimann to make the decision on Mr. Walker's status on July 15, 1976,
at 7:30 p.m.

Councilman Gorham feels we do not need to wait until July 15 to make a decision,
we can do it within the next couple days.

but will be here on Tuesday.

...
