Absent: <br />Commissioners Hardin and Wagner. <br /> <br />IDl'E CITY COUNCIL MJmrING MINUTES <br />The Commission noted the following: <br />1. Special City Council meeting minutes dated February 10, 1987. <br />2. Public hearing and special City Council meeting minutes dated February <br />17, 1987. <br /> <br />3. Joint City Council/Planning and Zoning meeting minutes dated February <br />17, 1987. <br /> <br />4. Regular City Council meeting minutes dated February 24, 1987. <br /> <br />Commissioner Ippel noted the problems that exist between Ci ty Council and <br />Planning and Zoning and suggested that the EDC issue a statement supporting <br />the Planning and Zoning Canmission and their efforts to uniformly enforce <br />ordinances and codes. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />Commission consensus was that it appears by the Joint City Council/Planning <br />and Zoning meeting minutes of February 17 that both Council and P&Z realize <br />there is a need to resolve their differences and begin working in the same <br />direction. <br /> <br />COMMISSION roSINESS <br /> <br />Case II: SUbconnnittee Reports: <br /> <br />a) Legislative Subcormnittee - <br /> <br />Chair.man Greenberg stated that he attended a meeting last Saturday with <br />Representatives Nelson and Larsen. The two major issues discussed were <br />proposed legislation regarding minimum wage and all: 00 p.m. curfew working <br />hour for high school age persons. Chainman Greenberg stated that in his <br />opinion these issues seem rather minor canpared to other issues proposed <br />for this legislative session like sales and motor vehicle excise taxes. <br /> <br />:. <br /> <br />The Canmission discussed proposed legislation regarding 11: 00 p.m. curfew <br />for high school age working persons. Commission consensus was that the <br />legislation is redundant in lieu of Federal legislation in place and <br />creates mnecessary paperwork1 that it is another nuisance law employers <br />will be looking to not violate; that it will put a lot of students out of <br />work as employers will avoid hiring those persons that cannot work after <br />11: 00 p.m.1 there are school dropouts in the same age category that need <br />the jobs; would the law be void during holiday and summer breaks. <br /> <br />EDC/March 11, 1987 <br /> <br />Page 2 of 6 <br />
