The Minnesota Department of Human Services and
Anoka County have worked together to establish the Anoka County Mental Health Resources Directory. A
copy of this director can be found on the information counter in the lobby at Ramsey Municipal Center. The
directory lists 9 areas of assistance offered by various agencies in Anoka County including Emergency Housing,
Food and Shelter, Residential Treatment, Crisis Intervention and Counseling Services.
Too many times persons who are having some problems in the area of mental health, either with loved
ones or themselves, really don't know how to get help and the problem just gets worse until someone becomes
a statistic. Anoka County has asked the City to publish the news that this directory is available. If you need
it, or even think you do, please use it. The Ramsey Municipal Center lobby location gives at least some
anonymity for persons looking through it.
It seems that we can talk for hours about our medical problems such as gall bladder surgery, Aunt Min-
nie's corns, ulcers, hangnails, etc., but let a few cells in the cranium take a vacation and everybody clams
up. There is help available and this Directory may be what you are looking for.
FACTS:

What is mental illness?
Mental illness is an organic disorder of the brain or a clinically significant disorder of thought, mood, percep-
tion, orientation, memory or behavior that seriously limits a person's functional capacities relative to primary
aspects of daily living such as personal relations, living arrangements, work and recreation.
FACT: One in seven adults (15%) suffers from a diagnosable mental disorder and is in need of professional
treatment in any six month period of time.
