RAMSEY PROFESSIONAL BUILDING

RAMSEY DRUG
Ramsey Drug is located in the Ramsey Medical
Center Building at the corner of Hwy. #47 and 153rd
Avenue. The drug store opened for business in July
of 1979. Pharmacist Wayne Jeffrey began manag-
ing the store in 1980 and he and his wife, Vivian,
purchased the store in 1984. The store currently
employs 13 local residents. Last year, they
renovated the store and enlarged the pharmacy to
accomodate the growth of the business. Ramsey
Drug is a complete family drug store. The st,ore car-
ries Carlton Greeting Cards, school and office sup-
plies, gifts, vitamins, health and beauty aids, photo
finishing, diabetic and ostomy supplies. The phar-
macy accepts most insurance plans. The Jeffrey's
pride themselves on emphasizing personal service
and value. Being a family-owned store allows them
great flexibility in serving their customers in the best
way possible. Ramsey Drug has all the "modern"
equipment available to pharmacies today including
a "hi-tech" computer system. However, old-
fashioned service and a smile for all of their
customers has allowed them to be successful in the
past and they say they will continue to view their
customers as their greatest asset. Currently, the
store hours are Monday through Friday from 9:00
a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and 9:00 a.m. to noon on Sat~r-
days. Ramsey Drug is affiliated with the Valu-Rlte
name and that allows Wayne and Vivian to be com-
petitive in their prices and provide a cost savings to
their customers.
FRAGILE TIME

With school approaching, the relaxed atmosphere
of summer will soon turn hectic. We as adults know
how debilitating stress and depression can be, but
how about your child? Do you, as parents, guar-
dians, teachers or concerned relatives and friends
know the warning signs of stress and depression?
On August 30th, the Ramsey Community Educa-
tion Department is sponsoring an informative discus-
sion and showing the video "Fragile Time". Ms. Pat
Morriem of the Anoka Extension Service will lead the
discussion and answer questions pertaining to
adolescent stress, depression and suicide.
Unfortunately, no child, whether an "A" student,
athlete, loner or punk rocker, is exempt from stress
and depression. In 1986, a study of Minnesota high
school students indicated that 37% of those
surveyed were depressed; 20% slightly, 12%
moderately, and 5% severely. Surveys show that an
accumulation of various stress overwhelm these
adolescents and leave them believing that suicide
is the only solution available to them. Statistics also
indicate that over the past 30 years, the number of
U.S. youngsters that commit suicide has increased
300%.
Adolescents (5th grade and up), as well as con-
cerned adults, are welcome to come and participate
in the "Fragile Time" meeting. Please join us for the
eye opening discussion on Wednesday, August 30th
from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Ramsey City Hall.
TAXPAYERS WILL VOTE FOR A 4TH HIGH SCHOOL!
(by Wendy Graves, V.P., Ramsey PTA)
On Nov. 7, 1989, the voters in District 11 will be:: asked to vote yes.~r no to an estima~ed $~9.75 million bond
issue, which includes a high school in Hennepin County and additions to Coon Rapids High School. Some
facts you should know:

Enrollment Projections
1988-89 was 32,500 1990-91 - 33,000 1993-94 - 36,000
Based on these projections and overcro~ding conditions in the schools, a task force consisti~g of pare~ts,
teachers and administrators was established to address these concerns. The recommendations were.
1. A 4th high school, housing approx. 2400 students.
2. Location - Hennepin County side.
3. Re-structure District 11 grade levels, K-5 / 6-8 I 9-12. ,
4. A field house and cafeteria additions at Coon Rapids High School.
Based on these recommendations, the school board has opted to go to the voters with a bond issue. If the
site can be acquired, the new school would be located off 109th Ave. and Douglas Dr. across from Jackson
Junior High, and the doors would open by fall of 1992.
Financial Impact on the Taxpayer .,
One of the schedules proposed to the school board inclu.ded a 10. yr. drop-off option deslg~e~ for future
building and remodeling needs. The first 10 years would Involve higher payme~ts .for the Dlstnct and th,e
taxpayer and the last 10 years would .in~olve a decrease, in I?ayments for the Dlstnct and ta.xpayers. ThiS
plan would make a bond issue for bUilding and remodeling In the next 20 years more feaSible.
Example:
20 yr. schedule with 10 yr. drop-off option
1990 taxes - $075,000 home = $37/yr.
1990 taxes - $100,000 home = $51/yr.
20 yr. schedule without 10 yr. drop-off option
1990 taxes - $075,000 home = $15/yr.
1990 taxes - $100,000 home = $21/yr.
At the school board meeting, August 14, 20 yr, proposals with 8 yr., 10 yr., and 12 yr, drop-off options were
presented,
At a recent school board meeting, Superintendent Lew Finch, stated that the t.iming of the election is a must
in order to alleviate the projected space crunch at the elementary level dunng the early 1990s.
There will be information on this issue in the next Ramsey Resident and at the PT A meetings held on the
second Monday evening of every month at 7 PM at Ramsey Elementary School. See you there!
