14017 St. Francis Blvd. N.W.

After many years in the floral industry in Minnesota
and Wisconsin as a designer and manager, Jackie
Nazzal and her husband, Mike, opened a floral shop
at 14017 S1. Francis Blvd. Jackie had previously
worked in Ramsey and her first hand knowledge of
the friendly, growing community convinced her to
locate her shop in Ramsey. Jackie says that she was
most impressed with the support she got from other
businesses, in addition to the cooperation and
assistance she received from the Staff at Ramsey
Municipal Center. Jackie recalled the Business Ex-
po at Ramsey Elementary School last year and said
"It was super; I never realized how many businesses
are in Ramsey and it was nice to meet our
neighbors.' ,
MORTON'S NURSERY AND GARDEN
CENTER

After 32 years with the Ford Motor Company, Stan
Morton retired and opened the nursery and garden
center located at 16355 Hwy. #47 (S1. Francis Blvd.)
in April of 1979.
Stan and Shelley have 11 children and he says
that their help in the business, along with that of their
spouses, has really been appreciated. In the spring
when it is time to pot the plants and shrubs, Stan
says it takes 20 people working two to three days
to get the job done.
The Nursery offers a full line of nursery stock,
perennials, bedding plants, ground covers, bulk
garden and grass seed, fertilizers, potting soil and
peat moss. In the spring, bare root nursery stock is
available (shade trees, hedges, etc.); and in the fall,
Morton sells home grown produce. Additional ser-
vices offered at Morton's Nursery include landscape
design, installation and maintenance.
The Nursery is open 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., 7 days a
week from April 1 st to November 1 s1.
If you have any questions on landscaping or
gardening, stop in and talk to Stan.
the metropolitan area after January 1, 1990. Have
yard waste?
Composting in your own backyard is a convenient
alternative in disposing of organic yard and garden
waste. It can also create a feeling of personal and
community pride knowing that at least in a small way
you have contributed to a better environment.
Harvey Buchite, Anoka County's Agricultural/Hor-
ticultural Agent will show us how to recycle our
organic waste into a valuable soil improvement
product.
FREE HOME STUDY COURSE
OUR FRAGILE RESOURCES
SOIL AND WATER

We Minnesotans have taken a lot of pride in our
natural resources, but we may also have taken our
soil and the quality of our water for granted. Like our
"10,000" lakes, our ground water and our soil have
been recognized as priceless resources.
Our ground water can be contaminated from many
sources, especially on the fragile Anoka Sand Plain
Soils. Soil conservation and water problems can't
be solved by just one group alone. Homeowners can
help, too. The material in this home study course will
show you how.
The Anoka County Extension Service is able to
send the Home Study Course free of charge. Topics
include: Where groundwater comes from, unique
characteristics of the fragile Anoka Sand Plain, water
contaminants, treatment systems, testing the water
supply, household hazardous wastes, septic system
care, locating septic systems, percolation tests,
water and soil conservation through lawn care, com-
posts, and tree selection.
Call the Anoka County Extension Service,
755-1280, for a registration form for this free home
study course.

MEDIATION SERVICES

Free help is available to help solve troubling con-
flicts before they lead to costly court proceedings.
way to deal with problems that is simple, quick and
available to anyone living or working in Anoka
County.
Trained volunteer mediators help parties decide
on a course of action. Typical issues settled by
mediation have been: neighborhood disputes in-
cluding noise, parking and pet issues; landlord/te-
nant conflicts including return of damage deposits,
repair and maintenance problems and eviction
issues; business/consumer conflicts regarding
goods and services.
a particular issue, contact Ann Wallerstedt, Ex-
