At the pre-
sent time, the program is especially in need of instructors in the following areas: Soccer, Ap-
ple Computer Club and T-8all. If you are interested in sharing your hobbies and talents, please
fill out an application at the Community School Office. The Community Education Department
would also appreciate hearing your suggestions for new class ideas. Please call 422-5199 for
more information.

COMMUNITY EDUCATION ADVISORY COUNCIL
SEEKING VOLUNTEERS

The Ramsey Community Education Advisory Council is seeking volunteers. The Council is made
up of local representatives who assist the Community Education staff in meeting the com-
munity's needs. The Council helps in planning and developing community programs, improves
communication between school and community and promotes the concept of community educa-
tion. Meetings are held at Ramsey Elementary School and are open to the public.

HUNTING IN RAMSEY

By: Police Chief Auspos

Hunting season is here and throughout the State, bun-rabs, squirrels, geese,
ducks, etc. are either running for their lives or preparing to do so as legions of
mighty hunters prepare their charge upon the fields and woodlands. Since areas
of Ramsey still look like prime hunting spots, but actually are big no-no's, it is
timely to insert the yearly caveat on hunting in the City newsletter. Likely, in another
three years or maybe less, this column could end in just two little words, "You
Can't". But there are still a few areas where firearms can be discharged, so I will
continue.
The City ordinance states that the ONLY firearm (this includes B-B, Pellet and
Dart guns in the 'can't' area) that can be discharged within the City limits is a
shotgun using nothing larger (physically, not numerically) than number four (4)
shot. Then, once having primed the old musket, the shooter must be no closer
than 500 yards from a residence or other structure and must have written permis-
sion of the landowner.
Note: The State's special goose permit will, along with 50 cents, get you a cup
of coffee someplace but it will not allow you to hunt the honkers in variance with
the above rules in the City of Ramsey.
There is to be absolutely no discharge of rim-fire or center fire rifles in Ramsey
as we are just too populated now. You can however, obtain a permit to hunt deer
with a bow and arrow by applying at the Police Department with your license and
written permission from the landowner in hand.
In summary, you can still hunt critters in Ramsey using a shotgun, however,
as I peruse the City map, it appears that you will have to stand in one spot and
quack, cackle, chirp or make whatever sounds will attract the desired beastie to
you because 500 yards is a long, long distance and you won't find many places
where you can strike an arc with a 500 yard radius line and not touch or encom-
pass a building or residence of some sort.
For safety's sake, please don't violate the City's rules and regulations as they
concern discharge of firearms. Besides that filet of feathers or rack of rabbit could
cost you $700 and/or a 90 day stay at the County jail. Thank you.
