The library will
provide full library services for adults and children.
Reference librarians will be available to assist users
in locating information and books during the added
Sunday hours.
The continued heavy use and crowded conditions
of the Northtown Central Library on Sunday after-
noons were cited by the Library Board in announc-
ing its decision to expand its Sunday service by
opening an additional library. The expanded hours
at the Crooked Lake Branch Library will allow the
library to better serve working adults and provide ad-
ditional study space for students. The Crooked Lake
Branch Library was selected for the additional hours
because of its size, its extensive collection of library
materials and its proximity to the Anoka Ramsey
Community College. With the additional hours, the
Crooked Lake Branch will be open 63 hours during
the week.
Use of the year-old Round Lake Branch Library
in Andover and the Rum River Branch Library in
Ramsey has grown rapidly. More than 100,000 items
were checked out from the Round Lake Branch in
its first year of operation. The Sunday hours at the
Crooked Lake Branch are expected to provide ad-
ditional access to information service for Nor-
thwestern Anoka County as well as for the people
in Coon Rapids.
YOUR ANOKA COUNTY LIBRARY
CELEBRATES THE YEAR OF THE YOUNG
READER.

COMMISSIONER STEFFEN
TO SERVE ON THE
MINNESOTA WOMEN
ELECTED OFFICIALS BOARD

Anoka County Commissioner Natalie Haas Stef-
fen was recently elected to the Board of Directors
for the Minnesota Women Elected Officials (MWEO).
Her term will run for one year.
MWEO was founded in 1980 as a non-partisan
organization serving women in public leadership
roles. The membership includes women from
throughout Minnesota serving as school board direc-
tors, city officials, county commissioners, judges,
legislators and state constitutional officers.
"One of the biggest benefits of MWEO is the state-
wide networking opportunities that allow us to learn
from others' experiences," Commissioner Haas
Steffen said.
"I'm really excited to be on the Board of Direc-
tors at this time because of the dynamic things that
are happening in our communities and because of
the new challenges faced by elected officials, both
men and women," she said.
MWEO helps its members meet new challenges
by sponsoring educational programs to promote
leadership development and personal and profes-
sional growth. It is a primary goal of MWEO to ex-
pand the role of women in government through pro-
grams which encourage other women to seek public
office. A Fall Conference is scheduled for November
10th and will be held at St. Catherine College in St.
Paul. In an emergency, time is precious.
How quickly help arrives may depend on you.
Emergency response teams, Police, Fire and Am-
bulance, need your help. Please help by doing one
or more of these simple, inexpensive things:
1. Place reflectorized letters 3 inches high on both
sides of your mailbox.
2. Place numbers on your home, as required by Ci-
ty Ordinance, in a contrasting color that are large
enough to be seen from the street and in a spot
that is well lit during evening hours.
3. Place a sign at the entrance to your property, on
a post or a tree using 3 inch high reflectorized
numbers. If you use a post, be sure not to place
the post within the road right-of-way.

The City encourages residents to have house
numbers that are visible from the street. If you have
questions, call the Building Department at 427-1410.
