SOUP LABEL DRIVE

A SUCCESS AT RAMSEY

ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

The Ramsey Elementary School Media Center will have 28
new books as a result of the collection of Campbell's soup
labels.

The Ramsey Elementary School PT A sponsored the "Camp-
bell's Soup Labels for Education Program" and a total of
14,900 labels were collected and sent on to Campbell's label
headquarters.

Chairperson Sue Hagen said, "It was a fun project to par-
ticipate in because so many people collected labels for us:
Teachers, students, parents and Ramsey residents who
didn't even have children attending Ramsey Elementary
School". "We are grateful for everyone's help and ask that
you keep saving labels for next year's drive."

Labels can be dropped off at, or mailed to Ramsey Elemen-
tary School, 15000 Nowthen Boulevard N.W., Ramsey,
Minnesota 55303.
and 7:30 p.m.
Also, the meetings of the City Council, Planning and
Zoning Commission and Park and Recreation Commission

RECREATIONAL BURNING

PERMITS REQUIRED IN THE

CITY OF RAMSEY

Burning permits for recreational fires (piled brush no larger
than 3 ft. in diameter) are available at City Hall and must
be obtained before you burn. Permits begin on the date of
issuance (exception is Friday when it could be issued to begin
on Saturday). You may burn for three consecutive evenings
between 6:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m. Only burning of woody
materials and brush is allowed (no leaves, garbage, treated
lumber, etc.). Barrel burning is not allowed. Residents served
by the Anoka-Champlin Fire Department must call the fire
department before each burn. Failure to comply with DNR
rules and regulations could result in revocation of your
permit.

WEED CONTROL CHEMICALS

DAMAGE TREES

The Anoka County Extension Service has received several
samples this spring of chemical damage to trees and shrubs.
Often times the damage is confused with disease problems
taking the form of wilting, twisted stems and leaves, unusual-
ly dark green leaf color and brown spots on the leaf surface.

Lawn weed control chemicals can cause damage to trees
and shrubs. Make sure to follow the manufacturers label in-
structions. Never apply weed killers more often or in a greater
amount than label recommendations. If you don't have
serious weed problems, don't spray or just spot treatment
to minimize the potential for tree damage.
SECOND YEAR BRUSH

CHIPPING SCHEDULE UPDATE

The City of Ramsey began its second brush chipping pro-
gram this spring. The City has awarded the contract for the
brush chipping program to Outside Services.

The program this year received over 200 applications for
brush chipping services. These applications were then zoned
according to their location in the City. Each of these zones
(A through F) will be chipped on an individual basis by zone.
The deadline for applying for brush chipping services was
May 31. If you missed the deadline, you may call Mike Mar-
quart at 427-1410 to see if arrangements can be made to
have your brush chipped.

All residents in the program will be notified ahead of time
as to when their area will be serviced. In an effort to com-
plete all of the individual brush chipping applications as close
as possible to schedule, the City asks that you not dump
any more brush in the designated drop-off areas. If you have
any questions or problems, please contact Mike at City Hall
(427 -1410).

you to the Bunker Hills Activities Center at 550 Bunker Lake
Blvd. in Anoka on Wednesday, July 18 from 7:00 - 8:00 p.m.
to learn basic composting strategies.

The seminar will focus on what, where, how, and why we
should all be composting in our own backyards.

Let us help you master this ancient and old technique that
has been forgotten.

You may pre-register at 755-1280. A $2.00 fee will be
charged at the door for materials.
